MAN 17.7% up for Jan to just over 1.6m pax.

Rolling year is now 25.9m. This means that as Jan had an extra 225,000 pax, of that growth can be maintained, we should get into the 27m pax mark by year end.

There are some losses to contend with, such as Shaheen Air pulling out, Thomson ending Mauritius and the loss of Washington to even out, but, 27m should be doable.

Also, Thomson website showing holidays to St Lucia from Manchester, 1 weekly on Thursdays from November, but currently showing as 'all gone' when trying to progress past the home page.

Thomson saying its a TOM flight, but given Thu is the day TCX fly MAN-UVF, suspect it's using their flight.

Sir Humphrey or Bagso - which ever you prefer

Just old news being recirculated by the MEN as the article itself says; only raised its head again after some councillor complained at a meeting. Last month, the MEN reported that Mark Carne, chief executive at Network Rail, said they were looking at the ‘cost-benefit ratio’, raising fears of a delay or cancellation. You would expect them to do that.; the fears are pure speculation. You must have missed this after you were banned.

Nothing new here. No decision has been taken. You can be sure that the relevant parties are lobbying hard behind the scenes - and not in public as you always want. Can we wait and see what actually happens?

Suzeman, I suspect you are more familiar than some of us as to how these procedures work, so perhaps you could clarify a couple of things.

I would have thought cost-benefit ratios would have been closely looked at before an application went to the Minister. Wouldn't it prove to be a waste of his and his department's time if Network Rail only later decided it was not a financially viable project having put it forward in the first place? Or is the Minister only being asked for approval for the building / planning aspects of it? Intentionally or not, Mark Carne's comment almost inevitably caused some concern that Network Rail were having second thoughts.

Were the additional 2 platforms at Piccadilly part of the overall Northern Hub scheme, which some of us thought had been given the go-ahead in principle?

Would appreciate your comments.

I remember flying Monarch MAN/XRY in 2007. So convenient for the Costa de la Luz, even better than MAN/SVQ. I fly MAN/AGP 2/3 times / year and drive 2.5 hrs to Vejer de la Frontera. XRY or SVQ would be more convenient. It's certainly an area to be exploited.

Talking of rail services I can not understand why train services from the Crewe direction are so appalling, just one slow stopping service per hour.

Throughout the day 67 trains travel between Crewe and Piccadilly, perhaps the Arriva trains Wales services could be diverted to serve the airport.

GIB would probably be a better Alternative than AGP maybe? I know it's a lot closer.

Sir Humphrey (Bagso) please don't turn this thread back into the twilight zone... we were just recovering.

I think we can all agree about the north's funding issues. Don't think it needs to be discussed further and Platforms 15/16 at Piccadily were not part of the original package, the MEN wrote a story on this a couple of years ago.

Finally, the escalators in the station are being replaced! Let's hope that ends the awful screeching.

Saw an apron picture that summed up this airport perfectly. A busy scene with the T2 sign brightly displaying the word ' anchester' to all.

New route check shows we have around 50 new routes announced for 2017 so far, a loss of about 12-15 routes but also strong growth on existing routes such as extra flights to Los Angeles, New York, Lisbon (TAP in particular) and Jet2 using the A330.

Not a bad year ahead!

Yes, off the top of my head I came to about 25 new and 6 lost. Is this what's new for starting sometime during 2017 that didn't operate at any time during 2016?

And of course we're talking airline routes not completely new destinations from MAN.

We have lost:

Thomson to Mauritius, Shaheen to Islamabad, PIA to New York (although that route won't affect pax numbers much), UA to Washington, several Small Planet to Greece (although some of the new routes directly replace the small planet, so balances out). We also lost Flybe to Rotterdam and Turkish will only be 2 daily versus 3 daily last summer.

I am talking about new routes for the airline involved. So Palma for example features a few times as BA and Air Europa off the top of my head are start.

Saw on another site that Delta are operating a number of ATL rotations instead of Virgin in April, with B772s.
Maybe Lax-LHR can confirm?

I've seen the reports but can't see anything bookable just yet. Person giving the info is usually spot on so no reason to doubt.
