Can't post link but just do search for "Chinese president to visit Manchester" and you will find a MEN article from yesterday.

Just beat me to it. I eventually found it but many thanks.
Part of a state visit but I trust it will be given more prominence nearer the time.
I see Osborne is going to China first and reportedly the northern powerhouse will be a key theme.

He also says Manchester is now, along with Heathrow, one of the only UK points to be served by all LH group airlines on a scheduled basis.
Just sayin'

How many more times its' the Mandarins in Whitehall stopping regional services with anti Chinese policies (Visa issues) and other rhetoric.
EK 2-class A380
It will be interesting to see how the golf club set take to the new Business cabins on the 2-class A380. If Seat Guru is correct (and it may not be) EK appear to have gone for an 8 abreast (2x4x2) seating arrangement in Business, albeit in a staggered layout. That's a big come down from the current 4 abreast though (1x2x1).
Another possible issue is that the Business cabin is now at the rear of the upper deck, with the front half of the upper deck now occupied by 120-odd Economy seats. I suppose this is because it was too hard to relocate the stand up bar from the back of the aircraft to the front. It will be a brave crew who try to keep 557 Y-class passengers in their seats after an 8 hour trip from Dubai, while the Business passengers disembark first from the back of the bus. The sprint to be first in line for Border Control could well see a few world records being broken

Stand 12 has just two jetways .
Not ideal for this two class airframe actually.
Read Birmingham may be fitting out a three bridge gate and that's certainly a much superior arrangement for handling the two class airframes.
As more frames become available I think EK19/20 may well revert to the three class frame later in the spring with the morning flight moving to the two class 388 - Estimate June 2016 or there about.
After that the fourth flight will be introduced with a mid afternoon 77W coming on stream - a la EK29/30 at Heathrow mainly for freight but using a two class machine.
All conjecture but with reasoned argument.
With four flights Emirates may move their focus elsewhere for growth and for some considerable time there after.

2 jetbridges for a 2 class A380 is not ideal, but, the new T2 development will have a few 3 bridge gates available.
It's a current hard rock situation for MAN.
Spend money on something that will ultimately be demolished in a short-mid term timeframe, or, just wait it out for the swanky new T2.
In other news, Turkish sending an A330 on tonight's flight.

Genuine question, if Emirates were to launch MAN-US would you guys support this given the huge impact on existing UA/VS/DL/AA operations which are in my view underserved?
Might the game changer be a great p2p to JFK perhaps with little option for a seamless connection onwards. Keen to understand how that would pan out. I don't think it would all be incremental growth, I suspect something would give.

rutankrd.
Yes think with 3 class A380s probably get away with 2 air bridges.
As you say BHX have been measuring up for a new air bridge on 54C,so hopefully it will be a 3rd and not just a higher replacement.
As BHX mostly a 2 class airport a 3rd ai rbridge for 615 is preferable.
Not sure MAN will need many more 3 air bridge stands as not sure apart from EK who would fly a 380 into MAN. Current LF on Qatar or Etihad don't suggest they would be interested in such a passenger upgauge.
They would probably instead add another twin jet flight as demand increases..unless the 777-9X needs a 3rd bridge at the same level ?

In terms of jetbridges.
Firstly, the Qatar and Etihad loads have picked up somewhat. The fact Etihad use their 2nd biggest capacity aircraft on both daily flights in the fact of some cuts to other destinations shows how much faith they have in MaN.
Secondly, the termina, 2 development will be ready in 7-8 years, so, just because aircraft have low LF's now, does not mean they will be low in 2024, a lot can change, and MAN will be building T2 for 2024' not 2016.

I cant see the EK Business passengers being too chuffed when trapped behind 500 economy pax on arrival at MAN, its one of the big plus points of travelling Business, I recently managed less than 20 mins walking from air bridge/collect bags and onto M56 in Limo
