It is worth noting that the seat maps will only show those who have chosen the seats. There are still plenty that turn up to the airport having not chosen their seats and get allocated at check in.

That's a good point LAX. I must admit that I was under the impression that if you had not pre-selected your seat, it had already been allocated to you when you checked in, but even if that were the case I don't know at what stage it is done
Most airlines now just allocate as you turn up. In the days of automated kiosk check ins, you can still choose your seat at the airport, so, empty seats on seat plans may not be empty.
Been on plenty of flights that show half emtpy planes according to the seat plan only to go out almost 100% full when your on them.

Quoting Suzeman:
"The things that could are the request for a judicial review into the Ordsall Chord (to be heard in September) which, if the project is much delayed, will b*gger up the Northern hub and the additional capacity which will allow new routes to the Airport.
And secondly the award of the new TPE franchise - due in December - where the short listed companies have options to run more of their services across the N Pennine route to Liverpool rather than the Airport."
Many thanks Suzeman for a reminder of those issues which could affect the airport.
On the first, does a judicial review re-examine the merits of the case and different options, or just the process by which a decision by the Minister was reached? As I understand it, completion of the Northern Hub, if it happens, will only allow one extra path an hour in each direction between the City Centre and Airport.
The second is a bit of a concern. At present, there are 2 trains an hour I believe to Leeds and York from the airport, one of which goes on to Middlesborough, and 1 an hour to Sheffield. Newcastle trains run from Liverpool and Hull trains just start at Piccadilly. I suppose if the new operator decides to run one of those airport trains to Liverpool instead, it would at least release a path for a train from say North Lancashire or North Wales.
Sorry if it's trains related but there are implications for the airport and connectivity as Suzeman points out.

WARNING ... TRAINS feature in this posting!
We know from recent public debate on the topic of rail access to Manchester Airport that the line already offers insufficient paths to satisfy current demand for access from TOC's [Train Operating Companies]. HULL has been actively campaigning for direct access which has not so far been accommodated. NORTH WALES has seen Arriva Trenau Cymru knocked back in its quest for additional paths to Manchester Airport, as the authorities are instead prioritising future access for services from the Calder Valley line [Bradford - Halifax - Rochdale] via the Ordsall Chord. More positively, CLEETHORPES lobbied vigorously to retain their through-train service to Manchester Airport (and I believe were successful in this?).
Note also recent publicity concerning the possibility of new services from the South, linking the Midlands via Crewe to Manchester Airport. Perhaps paths from the South can be more easily delivered?
I would speculate that whilst there may be a future reshuffle of rail services accessing Manchester Airport Station, all available daytime paths [Piccadilly - Airport] will be snapped up regardless. We could even end up with a better geographical spread of services, albeit at the cost of frequency on certain routes. This may yet turn out to be a 'blessing in disguise'.

Seat-maps
MANFOD & LAX_LHR
I noted the United BHX-EWR figures every day for one month this winter and it was fairly accurate. You can note four inbounds and outbounds at any one time and as long as you remember to check it for a final time after the flight has departed it is usually pretty accurate.
I was a little shocked at the final result as the seat map figure was slightly higher than the CAA stats, it was around a 2% error, which equated to over 100 pax. I thought that was a little high for the amount of no-shows but I seem to remember reading somewhere that 2 seats are blocked per flight for non-operating crew, is that right?
MANFOD btw the AA seat-map link I have access to has been showing system error for ages, are you carrying out dummy bookings?
BHX AA loads have been up and down to say the least.

Yes, but with UA, AA & DL, you only need to put the origin and destination airports in and the date (usually I've done it late evening for the next day's flight or early the day of departure), and along with the flight times there is the seats available option.
Your link when it works may well be more accurate, and with the start of a dummy booking the flight disappears as soon as it has departed.
I gather what I do may not be very accurate so even if I continue to check occasionally I don't intend to post. All names taken was right to point out that such information can be misleading, although I tried to suggest it was a general picture rather than a totally accurate one.
I'm not sure if some seats are blocked off - for example do security personnel still travel on some US flights - or for the reason you mention?

While we will never have a clear picture on the loads/yields some of the stats don't make good reading and once fuel starts to creep back up it could really test the carriers.
Given the $ is good at the minute it should drive numbers inbound as it is in other countries.

Cathay Pacific to use A350s next year according to that Aspire Aviation blog. Edited the pertinent bit
"The preliminary plan, still subject to change, also calls for the “selective replacement of a few B777 routes to current European destinations”, Aspire Aviation‘s multiple sources at Cathay Pacific said. The airline launched a 4 times weekly service to Manchester on December 8th last year.... Replacing the 3-class 340-seat Boeing 777-300ER with a 280-seat 3-class A350-900, for instance, provides the airline flexibility to either boost the flight frequency that business travellers prefer and generally carries a higher yield, ; or hasten the maturation process of these new routes by temporarily slashing short-term capacity in order to improve both load factors and yield. Should the airline ultimately decide to do so on such routes, the A350 will enable it to better optimise its product offerings to match market demand."
Aspire, it must be remembered, leaked the route launch. I can see i being used to boost frequency as the 80% full 777 becomes a 97% full A350 on the same frequency!

What is the Air Transat schedule ex MAN? Until a few months ago I only ever saw it going to YYZ, but every time I've had it lately It's been to/from YVR, except one day it came in from YYC?
Thanks LAX. I've been meaning to see Vancouver for years, being able to avoid LHR is delightful, might give it a go next year!
I should edit to say, I would book it assuming it was cheaper than connecting with one of the US bound airlines from my local airport (SNN in case anybody cares). But judging by recent price comparisons, that seems unlikely

its the same schedule also to GLA for YYZ, YVR, YYC using a mix of A333/2 and A310's. There have on occassions in the past been 3 x TS aircraft in the ground together at once at GLA. Quite a sight to see.

Went past her at 23.00 and passengers were in jet way but not boarding so I would guess she has gone tech.
