Yes, but with UA, AA & DL, you only need to put the origin and destination airports in and the date (usually I've done it late evening for the next day's flight or early the day of departure), and along with the flight times there is the seats available option.
Your link when it works may well be more accurate, and with the start of a dummy booking the flight disappears as soon as it has departed.
I gather what I do may not be very accurate so even if I continue to check occasionally I don't intend to post. All names taken was right to point out that such information can be misleading, although I tried to suggest it was a general picture rather than a totally accurate one.
I'm not sure if some seats are blocked off - for example do security personnel still travel on some US flights - or for the reason you mention?
