Thanks!
Surprised they stopped the route already, because except of January and February, the load factor wasn't bad in 2015.
But maybe the March was also not that good and the first weeks of April either.
In this case from May the one Fokker which is based in Waterford has only the morning and evening flights to London-Luton. Let's see if there is maybe another destinations which could be operated from Waterford.

At least load factor and passengers increased in March in comparison to October last year:
Oct '15: 38% LF, 8.800 passenger
Mar '16: 50% LF, 14.000 passengers

Not that surprising. They've been flying more fresh air between the two points than passengers and it's an oddity in their (ever decreasing) network requiring outstabling and empty positioning flights. Given that the Belgian courts have now given them 6 months breathing space from total bankruptcy as long as they can pull together a coherent and profitable operating model, I wonder how long ANR-SOU will last? That seems also to be limping along and might need putting out of its misery. VLM have always done best on ACMI/charter. Be interesting to see how their new intra German routes do - could be that their future is only in continental Europe rather than a hotch potch of low density, specialist UK/Irish/Benelux routes.

So they are now down to five routes and a four aircraft operation, with the aircraft mostly operating just two rotations each day. One has to wonder if SOU-ANR is the next route up for the chop - as it is a simpel tag on to HAM-ANR and the flights are crewed out of ANR, the economics are of course more favourable.
Let's hope that they earn decent money from ACMI flying for Cityjet, Flybe and the likes.

wetlanding - how would opening another base with the additional costs demonstrate a clear route to profitability when VLM was saved from bankruptcy only by a lenient court of law ?

Their situation has gone beyond "trying things", you can only afford to "try things" when you have money you can afford to lose and they clearly haven't. They need cast iron guaranteed profitable operations for 6 months and hope that profit is enough to cover all overheads.

It's all over
Breaking news in Belgium. They've thrown the towel in, grounded the fleet and declared bankruptcy. Cityjet flights ANR/LCY look to be cancelled with immediate effect. More to follow...

Not good to hear of another carrier shutting down.
I know BMI are looking for Flight Deck (TR & NTR) and Cabin crew in northern Europe so if there are any VLM staff available I'd suggest sending a CV over: cabin.crewrecruitment (at) bmiregional.com / careers (at) bmiregional.com
Given that they have a decent sized operation through BRU, maybe this may help out some locals with work?

Cityjet looking at options for LCY/ANR. In the immediacy, booked pax will be bussed to/from RTM. Unless they put their own metal on the route (or Jota), would have thought this was a prime candidate to be subbed to Stobarts and moved to SEN, freeing up the costly LCY slots - either for something else or sale? Belgian/Dutch routes have a history of doing well at SEN if there is no competition (which this was when Flybe Stobarts tried it).

sad to see them go but it will be interesting to see what happens next, given the talk about about a cityjet/stobart air merger, and also the fact that vlm had a wet lease deal with flybe, stobart could find an opportunity for growth through this though, could the flybe franchise be extended to the friedrichshafen routes?

That metal will now be free to do LCY - Antwerp?

Sure, but they should have plenty of RJ85 capacity available anyway.
I guess it was for a reason the LCY-ANR was the last remaining route to be served with a leased Fokker 50. I doubt that the passenger numbers will allow ANR-LCY to be profitable on an RJ85. It could be a candidate for BACF on the Saab 2000 if they can make a frame available.
