SOUTHEND 5
The easyJet SEN-CDG service starts today, it having replaced the SXF route, and it looks to have load factors of around 95% outbound and 42% inbound. It will be interesting to see how successful the route proves to be.

Expressflight:
Thanks for the Paris info., it looks a promising start. The 42% Inbound may be particularly significant, seeing as those passengers did not depart from Southend.

Do we know if the Osijek flights are starting later in March, no information is comming from the airport management and there is a need for new operators ASAP or we will again see a drop in PAX.
wetlanding - I appreciate your desire for passengers numbers at Southend to increase. However a Southend-Osijek route at high-ish fares seems most unlikely to work long term from SEN against Ryanair from Stansted. Does an airport with 1m pax really want to risk another potential OLT-style outcome ?

No dig at SEN, but helps proves the point that even on major city routes, it's still significantly more an outbound leisure market, rather than a gateway London airport.

Actually I think 42% CDG-SEN was very good when you consider the amount of alternative capacity on the LON route. I rather doubt that many of those pax had Southend as their final destination. If the European departure airport had been one with no existing link to LON you might have a point but from CDG I don't think so.

Looking at the 3 week view Southend seems to have the cheapest flights of all the London airports. I don't know if this is an opening offer to get the route going but it is good to see a good start on this route.

Southend? If so I would have thought this information would be more widely publicised. Any chance of a link or picture of the article?

Sorry do not know how to forward link.
However this is the Article as printed.
Southend Airport rues EasyJets departure
Stansted, Luton and City airports were the big winners, and Southend and Aberdeen the standout losers, in a year in which Britain's airports handled 5 per cent more passengers. About 254 million people passed through Britain's 40 airports last year, up from 241 a year earlier, according to the CAA data. Heathrow accounted for three in every ten passengers, but Southend suffered an 18 per cent plunge after easyjet decided to quit the hub on the Thames estuary.

Looks like the hack has got confused with EZY pulling the 4 th aircraft last year, which has contributed to the quoted 18% plunge in pax number for 2015.
i hope the LSA and EZY management quickly get the times to publish a correction tomorrow as this is not the sort of publicity LSA needs right now, when they are struggling to increase carriers and services.
