No that's not accurate. My understanding is that whilst there may only be enough fire staff on duty at any one time for CAT 4 or 5, there are enough fire staff on site at any one time to take us up to as much as CAT 9 at very short notice.

747s can probably come whenever they want as long as they book in, they might have been more regular if Councillor Doris and her NIMBYs hadn't put the boot into the original South side.

fire cover

Good valid points made by all re fire cover...however...most airlines pre plan diversions. If DTV. Are not showing that they can take say cat 5/6/7 aircraft between a certain time then airlines will not plan or come?

Apart from the odd huy/lab and Newc. Our diversion days are long gone??

But does it make sense to be manned for the remote possibility of a diversion?

The nature of diversions has changed anyway, airlines don't go to the nearest airport any more (unless it's an emergency of course), but rather the nearest airport where their engineering contractors are located.

I've seen BA's go all the way back to Heathrow from Newcastle for this very reason, although we have taken the last couple!

We stopped getting a significant amount of diversions long before the fire category was reduced.

The B744F could have legally operated without any fire cover at all! Its company would probably require some but no where near the level for a B744 pax! The extra fire cover is not just equipment to produce foam but man power to rescue the pax's until outside services arrive.

All airlines pre-plan diversions. It's mandatory for flying IFR.

Freight - road and rail - Peel

This is what Peel have in mind for DTV Airport land.
Houses will be a bonus for them. Its why the pushed so hard for the south side development. Forget air transport, its going to be a very big road/rail cargo hub on the east side of the country.

Beafer you do clutch at straws to stir up trouble at times! I know I tend to support Peel (most of the time), but Christ almighty surely even the strongest of cynics will see there's little or nothing in this!!!

I love the way the thread has been inactive for a few weeks and suddenly you drop this when a hint of positivity - even if it is something that will never happen - but positive none-the-less, is posted - because heaven forbid anything positive comes out of DTVA!!! :@

Just curious as to why DTVA doesn't get a mention when similar sites do. Also, why would a large logistics park be bad for DTVA?

Logistics is now the bigger plan in the Peel Group.
Not that it matters, but you state this as fact, can you back it up?

Exactly! It wouldn't. In fact, isn't something along those lines already in the master plan?

Belfast

Seems we didn't get the Belfast route, I would suggest it was due to Links Air going bust, but two other Links Air routes did get approved.

Manchester has just got a new logistics centre does that mean they
are going to close the airport? Logistics and airport go hand in hand

Have they gone bust - thought it was just (just!) their AOC suspended?

Maybe a logistics centre will provide more jobs than a Peel airport. The way the jobs market is looking in the area it might be a good idea.

As for backing it up, have a read of Peels history.

I'm unsure what the one off £8m impairment charge was all about swapping shares between companies?

N707z, word in the pub is that your new hangar will become vacant next year after cutbacks by the chiefs. Mind how you go there

Thumbs down Double aviation blow

coming hard on the heels that the Proposed Belfast route will almost certainly not go ahead, confirmation that we will definitely loose the Police ops from DTV. Has been announced.

A double aviation whammy.Any future aviation development is again on the back burner?

We may all have to become Stobbart wagon spotters in the near future!!

Aviation positives any one?
