Q400 G-JECO diversion into Manchester last night after engine failure. Service was Southampton to Belfast City.

The engine failed to perform in line with requirements and was shut-down. Hence, I said failure.

No headline-grabbing intended.

I apologise if my terminology was askew.

Flitefone. You quote Flybe as saying that IAG held 10.9 million shares. If you go to the investor relations section of the Flybe website and go to regulatory news you will find the information on the number of shares sold which I quoted in my post. 10,925,847 or just over10.9 million shares. As I said , they have sold the lot

The return of the milk run...

Flybe are to operate a thrice daily JER-ABZ service with stops in SOU and LBA from October with the Dash 8.

Journey times between JER and ABZ are around 4 hours.

Flybe launches ?hop on hop off? shuttle service

Good to see to see the announcement of an innovative new service.

Not really innovate. Channel Airways pioneered their 'Bus stop ' service from SEN to ABZ in the late 60's using modified Viscounts. There were six stops enroute, however it was not a successful operation and the flights ceased after a fairly short time.

This could be the end of Eastern at SOU, they currently fly SOU-LBA ~3x daily on weekdays and this continues to ABZ 10 weekly, can't see how they will survive the competition. The only thing I could see is them dropping LBA (Again!) and flying a direct SOU-ABZ.

adfly: I agree with your assessment. A pull-out by Eastern at SOU, unfortunately, does seem likely.

In January 2010 I flew with Eastern's J41 bus stop service ABZ-MME-LBA-SOU. I made a stop at MME to stay the night over at The St. George Hotel (former officer mess of RAF Middleton St. George) after a fine dinner at The Brasserie in Yarm.

With my other half being Eastern crew, this announcement has got them worrying the LBA base might go if they retreat from LBA-SOU all together.
If flybe can get their act together and make sure A) the transit flights are smooth ones *handling agent dependant of course* 2) the infamous Dash 8 and it's refusal to play nicely with regards to going tech dissapear, the route could be a success.

Tactics wise Eastern will either fight, possibly bringing the SAAB onto the route (combined with the business friendly times) and scrap the transit SOU-LBA-ABZ and vice versa OR more likely shut up shop at Leeds. Quick check on flybe fares are looking around 30-50 quid LBA-ABZ/SOU.....

Interesting winter ahead me thinks!

I seem to recall that in the 70's DanAir did a similar operation called LinkCity, which included sectors such as Cardiff - Carlisle. It will be interesting to see how this works out. Innovation is all very well but they don't have the best of reputations for reliability and service in relation to their high fares.

DanAir used to operate a twice daily BOH - MAN - NCL Monday through Friday with HS748, it routed through CWL MON,WED and FRI and BHX TUE/THU I think.

At one time LPL was used in place of MAN .

It was Always a popular service, the aircraft also did a CI triangle from BOH at Lunchtime. And several CI rotations at the weekends ..

Pretty much as I remember it, sad as it sounds I used stand on the spiral staircase at BHX in the middle of winter at around 19.30, as a 14/15 year old and count the pax in and out. Stand 10 on the old terminal and I am sure on some flights the starboard engine remained at idle as the pax disembarked.

When the Dan Air 748 (not the Boeing version for our younger readers) ended it was taken over by a Metropolitan Shorts I believe for an all too short period.

Back to present day, flybe has allocated a 195 to BHX - AMS for winter on all three flights but the often over-subscribed Paris is still showing as the 175.

Also without being greedy wouldn't the aircraft due to be allocated to Dublin - LCY now be better directed towards BHX, especially as a couple more city routes have been left vacant, one from today and one in a couple of months?

I assume with the Brussels Airlines agreement coming to an end flybe are not going for an extension or isn't that on the agenda?

I have been in Dublin all week and the announcement by BA of 5 DUB LCY Rotations daily from the Autumn received considerable newspaper attention.

I wonder where this leaves Flybe on this route, I would doubt it will take BA CityJet and Flybe - maybe Olton Pete is right BHX needs the aircraft

Frequency Increase SEN-CFR

Flybe/Stobart Air have increased the frequency on SEN-CFR from 4 x weekly to 6 x weekly for the period from 26 July until 23 August. Additional flights will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Many of them were genuine Avros at that! G-ARAY was the 2nd prototype and former demonstrator, whilst G-ARMW,MX,RW,G-ASPL and all the ex-Argentina aircraft were all true AVRO 748s. The remainder were HS.748s.
Apologies for the thread creep, I spent 3 happy years flying them out of BOH in the 70s.
