Question:
For people in Edinburgh, would you be willing to fly through Dublin/Shannon airport to Save £200 flying to New York, or would you fork out the extra for direct flights.
Would the benefit of USPC have any affect?

The convenience of the US pre-clearance is an outstanding advantage of the EI connections from the UK. When you arrive in the USA to be able to skip the hassle of customs and immigration when you are knackered after the trans-atlantic flight is such a great benefit. I think that is much more of an incentive than the lower fare.

Thats an interesting move , given their relatively low loads despite now being established and EY making reductions. Wonder how much of their passengers are O+D vs connecting ex EDI. One wonders if that will erode or maybe improve the poor loads as it may add connecting opportunities. One to watch I would have thought.

Ryanair at Edi
Could anyone tell me when Ryanair started operating officially from Edinburgh as I have been told they made a couple of "one-off" type flights to start with?
Thanks

EDI announced today that a total of 11,130,584 passengers passed through the airport during 2015, equating to 9.4% growth on 2014 figures. This figure represents the busiest year ever at a Scottish airport.
This puts the airport well on course to achieve 12 million pax in 2016 given the major expansion from Jet2, and the addition of Delta, Finnair etc.
Interestingly, December 2015 experienced a growth of 19.1% in international pax with domestic growing by 1% (loss of VS Wee Red) resulting in an overall growth against December 2014 of 9.1%.
Great set of figures in what has been another fantastic year for the airport. The new owners have certainly delivered and have promised significant investment in the check in and baggage areas this year. Reckon they may need more Tarmac too.
Roll on 2016.

Great figures but as one who travels through EDI quite often I just wish they'd invest in the infrastructure ahead of the growth rather than struggling to catch up. I can't remember the last time I had the pleasure of an airbridge and the deplaning process of "descend the aircraft steps, walk across the tarmac, climb a set of stairs, walk through the departure lounge and then descend another set of steps (or escalator) to arrivals" is more third world than capital city. Departing EDI when it is busy with the queues for baggage drop, security etc is also a nightmare. Maybe time for the owners to concentrate more on making the pax feel loved rather than attracting ever more business.
The layout of the terminal doesn't help. Without a new complete new build, they're still having to tack wee bits on here and there. That 1977 structure is still the basis of everything there today and it was not designed for anything close to what it's serving now. BAA building a whole new pier on the cheap with no airbridge access or UK Border facility was a complete farce.
The owners, GIP try and build up a business before selling it on at profit, they're investors rather than operators in the traditional sense but they've worked wonders at Gatwick in terms of infrastrucutre whereas at EDI, they FUBARed the new security hall. Quite the least intuitive piece of design I have seen in a major UK airport, clearly senior management took their eye off the ball, or they have a great new business team and a poor operational support structure.

I agree with the above two posts - if they really want to continue with the impressive growth, its time for a radical rethink about how they expand the infrastructure in a way which will ensure customers enjoy their experience at the airport.
The terminal at the moment is way too small.

Unfortunately the service drops back to 5 days in W16. I wonder if this is still down to "aircraft shortages" or more lack of projected pax and freight. Has anyone got more insight?
