As our flight is at 06:45 we're staying in the Premier Inn (£39 for the night) and booked short stay parking at NCL (£51 for 12 days) so we are still substantially better off.

DY are quite well know in the Canary Isle market so i doubt they'll have any problems filling a couple of flights a week. They operate this route out of LGW both scheduled and charter for Tui against EZ & Monarch to name a few. EDI rumoured for Norwegian base next year at some stage along with BHX

£155 AUH-EDI on tomorrow inaugural flight. I dont think ive ever seen a Middle East flight so cheap, let alone on the fanfare launch flight. Looks as if competition is going to be tough.

oooft! you cant even get a LHR for that price ! Hard to know the main direction of travel suspect most will be outbound ex EDI (although even thats just over £200). Seat maps look wide open on both legs for the whole week esp in J which is probably to expected for a flood of widebody daily seats at the beginning of a new service. Is Qatar still operating with low 70's loads before EY starts or have they improved?

Its June - the low season for flying east, I am not sure what was expected as it happens every year just look at the past Emirates figures around the UK.
Glasgow & BHX last June averaged around 70% on Dubai and the only question I would ask is why start in early June and what was the urgency other than the impending Scottish school holidays at the end of the month.
Qatar at 77% was improvement but I suppose still early days.
Turkish - It appears to still be daily in winter and the last time I checked it is again next winter whereas BHX& MAN seem to keep their summer increases although I do accept BHX is still very average in terms of load factor even before considering yield but they seem a patient airline.

She used stand 10a which is directly linked to the new temporary immigration area. I believe the QR 787 also uses this stand from today rather than her usual spot at gate 2.

First EY- 74 inbound (with a small group of EY employees) 101 outbound
Lots of room on a two class A330. With the give away introductory fares I expect these loads will pick up at least over the peak Scottish school hols. The Scots love a canny cheap bargain.

Nonsense. The outbound leisure market is slowing outstrippimg supply and has already overtaken inbound tourist numbers by a large margin. Just look at the current portfolio, recent expansion by TOM, Jet2 etc etc and CAA stats to places like Malta and Faro to compare against the example given of Glasgow.

However, having a strong inbound market is not to be sniffed at - after all, if the Scottish economy fell back into recession, or sterling fell in value, then having more than one club in your leisure bag makes very good sense, as the reduction in outbound business may be at least in part be offset by inbound tourists.

Is it really? Look at the stats for the Tenerife, Alicante type routes from GLA, they perform significantly better. Thomson and Thomas Cook have much larger services from GLA than EDI. GLA now has a year round Vegas service because the majority of its sunshine routes perform so well. GLA can't maintain the big city routes however like EDI has with the likes of Frankfurt and Copenhagen etc and the inbound visitors these hubs bring.
The bulk of Scotland's population lives within one hour of both EDI and GLA so from a passenger's point of view the airports are complementary. EDI has more business connections (banks, government bodies) so if my clients want to visit I always point out flight availability from both airports even although I live in Glasgow.
easyJet and Skyscanner both allow searches from 'Central Scotland Airports' for outgoing flights so we have the best of both worlds thanks to competition between the two airport operators
