Im amazed at that decision after barely 2 months of operations and all the fanfare of new daily service. Forward bookings into Winter must be dire for such early consoldation. A lot of people suspected there would cuts. Perhaps more to come. I too felt QR would be the first to buckle, perhaps OneWorld is propping them. 5 weekly might be a safer bet for both of them if yields are as bad as some say. Interesting times. EYtastic!

QR's membership of OW isn't propping the route up. It's membership is part of what is making the route increasingly more popular. BA has a high number of top and mid tier exec card members in and around the EDI catchment area. A ever increasing number of these card holders are using QR to fly to the Middle East, India and Asia. Membership of OW mean exec card holders accrue tier and avios points and often paying around the same if not less for the ticket.

At the end of the day, if true, it's a reduction of two flights per week. I'm hearing that they are also reducing Dublin over the winter too.

EDI is in a healthy position as it has numerous carriers to numerous hubs (even more with the addition of Finnair announced this morning). It does not have one dominant carrier which effectively prohibits other carriers from going there. Personally I think choice is a good thing.

Finnair

Bookable from at least May 2016 but an odd schedule so it could be work in progress.

AY927/8 A319 09.10-09.50 Sunday, Monday & Thursday.

In days gone by, at first glance it might be described as a pseudo-IT aimed at inbound pax over the summer months to Edinburgh, similar to the current Edelweiss service but with the added bonus of it being a full-service operator. Although this could be year-round as this won't be known until it is officially announced.

I would imagine pretty useless for connections to their long-haul network to the Far East as it needs to be double daily, although I assume one -way (inbound) could be done with BA via LHR and of course there are also other alternatives.

I also checked the winter easyjet schedule out and Vienna is bookable twice a week from February but I originally chose a week in January to preview and couldn't believe the lack of flights but once February half-term kicks in the schedule is pretty good.

Not checked recently but that 09.50 departure from UK allows some quick connection times in HEL.

Something does not seem quite right with some of the AY927 flight timings.

Finnair

BAladdy

Cheers, I couldn't find the Wednesday flight when I looked but maybe I did't scroll down beyond the early morning connecting flights.

j636

Sorry I meant inbound to EDI but I suppose if you can arrange to come back Sunday and Wednesday it solves that issue.

I assume all year round service?

Don't you mean Finland is two hours ahead of the UK rather than two hours behind!

Car Park Charges Update

Got a phone call from Customer Services today as a result of my leaving a query around the 3% charge to debit cards on Monday. Chap was very helpful and explained that it was a computer error and that on occasion some debit cards are charged. I will be refunded the 3% and could I check that the same thing doesn't happen when I return to EDI next Sunday.

Think its just summer only to HEL. Im sure theyll review it again like they did last time. One presumes an Emb or A319?

I suspect this is the more likely timetable...

Cabin Crew.

I think if you look at the CAA stats for Qatar ad Etihad from EDI the answer is clear.

Cannot stay daily on LFs under 70% think some of them are in the 50s and 60s !!

Beyond belief that with Qatar not getting exceptional loads to say the least that Etihad would jump in anyway despite this.

Were they more interested in just keeping up with the Jonses from the start ?

Lets hope that they can both stay the distance at EDI and loads start to build next year.

I don't know what sort of incentives GIP are offering airlines but they seem to be doing a good job of encouraging overcapacity on various routes.
