That's interesting Buster the Bear.
Perhaps if Ryanair do add more routes from Luton it will be with aircraft based elsewhere like with Copenhagen? That way it gets around the slot congestion first thing and lack of spare overnight stands

Looks like the Harps have struck up a deal with AENA, so maybe more to follow?

Let's remember FR already have a strong deal with MAG at STN where they need to hit growth targets in order to unlock cost discounts.
I'm not ruling out any new deal between FR and LTN but if there was, I'm sure it won't be long until we hear about it and I certainly doubt it would be at any expense to STN.

EZY need to get a grip as and when FR penetrate into more of their routes.
I disagree with this statement. What is the point in engaging in a dog fight against FR when FR will fight to the end with significant lower fares, substantial resources to win and a strategy that says lets be last to give in. That sounds like commercial suicide.
In my view EZY is very commercially run, and despite significantly lower passenger numbers can favourably compare to FR on profitability in recent years. They serve their shareholders. As do FR, but know which battles to pick.
EZY will throw the kitchen since at fighting with competitors of less strength, such as a plethora of flag carriers , and notable examples include AerLingus at Gatwick. You can take it for granted if wizz, norwegian or Ryanair or Vueling entered Gatwick at scale EasyJet would not wage a war. easyJet are on the record for saying that these examples are lower cost. What are rightly interpreting is that it is strategy of EasyJet of not entering a fight that it cannot win and to date this has paid off.

Is there even a battle when it comes to Luton, Easyjet trumps and outnumbers Ryanair overwhelmingly. Wouldn't be surprised to see the harp disappear over the coming years in Bedfordshire as the orange growth continues. 1 Copenhagen route wont change that. Ryanair has been stagnant far to long here.

Re FR and CPH route.
There is some good news here.
Firstly the Airport will gain in pax numbers, maybe be it temporarily on this route
Secondly this will be the first route I believe where they have gone head to head from LTN.
I can't see Easy being too worried and it will be fascinating to see the prices and pax figures between them.Will reputation kick in or low fares dictate.
I can see no real reason for FR to choose this over STN other than having a go at Easy because they couldn't have a go at LGW.
Mind you arriving in the middle of the Wizz invasion at 7.30 am should be fun!

No - I think there is value in maintaining a presence at it clearly signals to other airports there are options. So will Easy at STN mirror Ryanair at LTN- more likely.
I think Ryan are still a bit more "puffed up adder" like Easy were when Stelios was in charge - when MOL retires and we get an equivalent (i.e. e.g. ex Guardian senior manager) at Ryanair these tactics might end.
Or do we think the next Ryan manger won't be a professional manager?

It's great to see a bit more commitment from Ryanair to Luton, however long it lasts. Whether they win the Copenhagen battle or not we will see, or perhaps both airlines will find a way to coexist on the route?
We wanted flights to Scandinavia and soon we'll have two. With any luck, more routes will follow. Didn't Ryanair fly to Stockholm from Luton briefly a while back? Perhaps there's room for either carrier to go there?

What a daft statement! MOL is an aviation legend! I would have loved to see a real long-term price war between him and Stelios. Pity the Greek bailed out so soon. 300+ airframes and a doubling within 10 years is hardly unprofessional.
With so few European airlines, fares are far from low-cost now. Alitalia, KLM, Air France and Lufthansa in 10 years time (if they survive) will be long-haul only fed by Vueling, Ryanair, Norwegian (if they survive), easyJet and Wizz. Not too sure where Monarch and it's tiny 'new' fleet will feature though?

FRatSTN I have no idea to be honest, I don't know how many flights ezy runs through stn. No doubt Ryanair dwarfs everyone there so they probably don't have any worries either. My focal point was Luton, I don't see Ezy running scared or being bothered in the slightest about competition on 1 flight. LTN is their base, They are planning major expansion over the coming years and already dominate flights by a huge margin.

- Bergamo
Could it be that all these routes were chosen because they do not operate today from Copenhagen and therefore qualify for lower charges? Yes, Easyjet will start CPH-Luton soon, but the route could still have been eligible for support since no one flies it yet.

When the new terminal was built the old terminal was creaking at the seams due to in part easyjet expansion. It is starting to look like it will be the same again with the existing terminal running beyond its design limits before the terminal and airport expansion programme is finished.
With large parts of the terminal being closed off to passengers to allow the builders to move in I expect Luton to keep its bottom place in the annual Which airport review for sometime to come.
No gain without plenty of pain in the next two years.
