I suppose it's too much to hope that we might see some long haul routes anytime soon but perhaps one day? After all, thre have been a number of precedents. I well remember the days when Britannia flew to Oz and there were some flights to Florida. Who knows, one day that 787 to Hawaii mentioned by Buster the Bear might just take off?? I know it's a dream but we can all dream and the 787 does make dreams of long haul at Luton possible

easyJet
Big few weeks for easyJet at Luton with new routes to Copenhagen, Lyon, Basle, Naples, Rome & Munich all set to start. I can't remember the last time so many new routes were launched concurrently by easyJet. With next summers schedule looking bigger and better than this year, Luton is getting more and more orange.
I wonder where next for easyJet? What could be the next new destinations as they grow still further?

Wonder if the stands on the hangar line will be remarked up to create an extra stand for summer 2015 as per the master plan? Also when will Signature be forced to give up the Pond?
The demolition crew have spend the day ripping out the rear of hangar 62, which will soon become a mini apron for Signature but will be no substitute for stands 16/17

Signature are still rarely using the new hangar and the South Stands continue to be used for overflow parking together with the odd arrival on one of the Hangar Line stands.
Nobody I've spoken to on the airport seems to know when work will start on the new FBO building but I guess its safe to assume that when it does (and the two old hangars get demolished) the new hangar will see some use!

I agree runway08, it would be good to see more Scandinavian routes. Do easyJet have much of a presence there other than in Denmark?
It's clearly a very competitive market but if Copenhagen can work, why not Stockholm or Oslo?

Ryanair winter schedule
Does anybody know what the winter is like for the four aircraft Ryanair have based at Luton ?
Are they fully utilised of just partly like last winter ?

On easyJet, Luton & Dunstable newspaper published and then revised an article when Summer 15 was put on sale that included routes to Madeira. Sounds like an obvious choice if it were to happen.

Madeira would be a great route. Having seen Falcon666's post outlining the initial S15 schedule, there is space for more flights on certain days so perhaps it will happen. I'd like to see the return of Cagliari or perhaps Oporto which is I think to be a new easyJet base? I think Dubrovnik could be a great choice too.

Ryanair winter schedule
Gruffy
If there are four based, they don't need them. The schedule only calls for three aircraft but I only checked one week in mid-November and a few dates in February.
The good news is that the three that operate are busy, they operate around 8 or 9 flights a day between them.
I think some on here have commented before, the poor amount of FR Canaries flights - basically a twice weekly Arrecife and that is your lot. In fact their only FR Spanish route in the winter as far as I could tell. Tenerife is a shocker, FR nil, easy nil and Monarch between 3 and 4 (5 in holiday periods) only slightly beating the FNI service for the amount of frequencies.
The other thing I noticed is that virtually all Ryanair services are operated by Luton based aircraft.

Re the denim charters! tonight's flight out went to Clermont so that was likely a rugby charter for the Saracens game but it appears that one is coming back from Amsterdam early tomorrow.
The Fokker came in from Aberdeen a few days earlier so no idea what that was for.If they are for Mercedes seems strange routings.

This is the first time I have looked at the full winter timetable with Ryanair and just picked some dates in November and December, the schedule and routes is shocking! Next summer however seems a lot better.
Murcia, Reus and Gerona are all cut for winter and Reus does not seem to be coming back next summer either... These routes have usuaully had a 2-3 times weekly presence even during the winter months, and Murcia is popular all year round with the huge ex-pat population in nearby Torrevieja.
As discussed some time ago, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura are cut for winter, but maintain their twice weekly schedule next summer.
Marrakesh is reduced to twice weekly, last winter it was five times weekly as I used the service.
(Goes back to 5x daily next summer)
Malta is reduced to 3-4 times a weekly and this was operated at least five times weekly last year.
(Next summer however some days will be operating twice daily!)
There is no flights to Italy this winter, it is showing in the booking engine drop down menu Alghero and Rome (CIA), but I don't think either routes were operated last winter.
In actual fact I didn't know Ryanair operated to Rome from Luton at all, I cannot find any schedule (for now, winter or next summer) so the route may be about to be announced for next summer... If so that then means we have three airlines operating the route next year!
Ireland seems to be the only winner this winter... I cannot remember exactly the full schedule from last year, but thought Kerry and Knock only operated several times a week but are now daily. Also Dublin maintains its 3x daily schedule, where a winter a year or two back it was reduced to a twice daily schedule.
The routes to Lithuania, Poland and France seem to stay the same. However Vilnius seems to be getting the chop next summer.
This has always seemed to be the case, with only the odd route or two operated by aircraft from other bases... We have seen a few of the Canary routes operated from these bases or where they share the route operated on different days by alteranate bases. Malta this year has operated like this.
I think wherever possible routes operated to London from other bases by Ryanair, operate into Stansted.
Even though it is great to have a Ryanair base at Luton, and seems to work well, always maintaining their four aircraft base over the last 10 odd years... We have never seen any further commitment of growth from them and I struggle to see how the base fits in for the airline, with Stansted only down the road.
Even though Ryanair are happy to go head to head with easyJet and other carriers at other bases, they do not seem to have that mentatilty at Luton. They seem to operate their own niche of routes, and avoid direct competition (with the odd exception). For example Malta, Marrakesh, Murcia, Gerona and the Irish routes.
While they are happy to duplicate some of the routes they operate from Stansted and fly them also from Luton. You would think they would do the same for the major tourist routes like Majorca, Ibiza, Malaga, etc...
