While the police were no doubt following a procedure to close the approach road to the terminal there was no plan to direct traffic to a safe area which could have been maybe the midterm and long term car parks. No doubt these would have soon filled up but there was no plan for keeping the local road network open. The end result was that South Luton was gridlocked to such an extent that the Police had to close both exists the the M1.

So, direct competition for Tarom. I guess Wizz either see the route as one which can sustain more growth and/or they are trying to push Tarom off the route. Will be interesting to see how both perform once the Wizz flights start

Wizz we do the 2 services on Weds and Sun but have much better flight times than the current tarom service which gets in at 11 at night and then leaves at 12. This could be another airline leaving LTN with wizz replacing them like there did with Adria.

FR S15 schedule is starting to be loaded.
RAK is going up to 5x weekly with a early departure.
Daily MLA flights are to be operated by a Malta based A/C for next summer it appears. ( Additional flight on a Thursday Morning with LTN based A/C)
Only routes not available so far are Reus , Girona and Alghero.
Still a bit of space for additions though.

Ryanair
Is the FR schedule for S15 still using 4 based aircraft?
Given that Falcon666 mentions that MLA will be served using a non LTN based aircraft, there is presumably room for growth through adding a new route or two?

Yes , still four based a/c for S15.Not sure about new route opportunities, depends like LTNman says about Girona and Reus charges issue.
Looks like the canary Island flights will all be by LTN based a/c next summer so that will fill some of the gaps.
Interesting that FR don't really have any competition on the majority of their routes.Obviously The Irish routes but also RAK , MLA , KUN , BTS and the French routes.
Just wondering if this is the way to go for ZB and move away from the multi airline dominated sun routes like Palma , Mahon and Faro.Look at routes that others don't do and try and find a niche market-Unlikely I know but if they just go up against EZY and FR with a reduced fleet I can see them still struggling.

Thanks Falcon 666. The change in operation of the MLA route which is I think daily, must free up some space within the based fleet of 4 aircraft? I'm surprised FR doesn't go 4 x daily to DUB. Given how popular the route is, I'd have thought it could sustain a more frequent schedule.
As for ZB they did have some routes like FCO & NAP that had no competition and what's happened, EZY have come along & started competing with them so it's difficult to pick out routes that have no competition & try to build an operating model on that basis.

Wizz S15 schedule.
Looking at a peak week in July for next year Wizz will have 260 Flights per week.
Breaks down as
Monday. 37
Tuesday. 35
Wednesday 40
Thursday. 36
Friday. 37
Saturday 35
Sunday. 40
If the schedule is now finished then there will be only 12 early morning arrivals between 06.45 and 08.00 every day.
I think that 260 Flights is about a 10%+ increase over this year.
That's assuming there are no more additions .
I know I should really find other things to do when on holiday

Credit where it is due. Out and back to LTN in the past week. 0840 AGP flight. From taxi drop off to coffee air side including bag drop was 25 minutes. Stand arrival to taxi pick up including checked bag was also 25 minutes. Busy time outbound but there seemed to be more security staff on duty and also more staff serving at the various retail outlets except WH Smiths who are still a cheap bunch of monkeys.

Wizz
Interesting stats Falcon666. Good to see Wizz continuing to grow at LTN and perhaps no bad thing that the number of flights in the morning peak in S15 is slightly down on this year.
With the A321 joining their fleet in due course it's easy to see that some future growth will come from them substituting it for the A320 on key routes but in terms of new destinations, where else could they add as they seem to have Eastern Europe pretty well covered now, except perhaps Estonia & Albania?

Ryanair Summer 2015
Great to see Ryanair continuing with four aircraft...
Even though their LTN base is not the not most exciting routes, I really like the way Ryanair have chosen routes which seem to compliment the airports other routes and at are not looking to drive out other airlines at the airport on existing routes.
They seem to have found a niche in operating routes other airlines don't fly and find demand to operate these routes. They also seem reluctant to operate flights from Luton that are also operated from STN.
While the base has not really grown in years, its good to see we are not seeing cutbacks. Airports like EMA, BHX and LPL were all promised eight aircraft to be based at their airports, and these have been cut over the years to a similar number to LTN. They do see to operate more routes from the other airports, but I think they seemed to be operated at lower frequencies.

Wallp - RYR 331/332, 334/333, 337,338 and 341/342. Looks like 4 rotations to me. I don't know about this winter, but the crews have been working hard this summer and so their available hours for the winter will be reduced, hence mothballing an aircraft.
