This situation existed in the eighties when cargo aircraft, Air Bridge Carriers, Channel Express and others used to park on the hangar line. Whenever Monarch and Britannia used to want to get in/out hangars it was like musical chairs with aircraft. Used to cause a few arguments if on/offloads going on at the time.

So much for having a new cargo apron built, this stupid situation has made a return and nothing learnt after nearly 30 years !!!

The problem was that Sig needed a new hangar and this was the only available spot at an airport that lacks space. It was Signature's choice to sell their newish hangar to Gulfstream and to build yet another hangar. I wonder if they tried to get it back and to get Gulfstream to move to cargo?

Remember Landmark/Ocean Sky are new to Luton but still managed to get hold of one of Monarch's hangars right next to their ramp. Harrods hangars are next door to their terminal and then there is Signature with a hangar behind the cargo apron where aircraft can sit most of the day.

I am not going to make excuses for the airport because it clearly has its flaws but the HIGHLIGHTED complaints were and I quote "[Staff] forced a lady in front of me to buy a plastic bag for a tiny bottle of prescribed eye drops - extortion!”" and "there was a line"... Oh the humanity? Is that really this persons definition of "extortion", Someone contact webster!! That never happens anywhere. One is a security issue I am sure they have no control over other then to follow the guidelines and the other happens absolutely everywhere.

I would gripe about the ****ty roads and tatty old buildings more then having to get a baggy for a bottle of liquid.

As I said before, LTN was a joke in the 80's and will continue to be. Best thing would be to build new, away from the current operation then once open, redevelop the old. But lets face it, that will never happen so in another 10-20 years, this thread will still be open and we'll still be talking about how bad LTN is.

So where would you build it and don't say South of the runway as that would take years to get planning permission so what do you do in the meantime?

But lets face it, that will never happen so in another 10-20 years, this thread will still be open and we'll still be talking about how bad LTN is.
Probably will but before 10 years is reached the airport will be still maxed out at 18 million passengers because the demand is there.

In a separate snapshot investigation, we found holidaymakers could save almost £600 by switching their chosen airport on a seven-night break. A summer holiday to Portugal departing from Luton with Thomson could be £584 cheaper if you flew from Gatwick instead.”

Now this is the real story. Thomson greed? How many of its passengers fly from Gatwick rather than Luton because of the price difference? Package tours used to be Luton's bread and butter now it is cheaper to fly Easyjet and sort out your own accommodation despite the buying power of Thomson.

Thomson isn't about being the cheapest, they sell themselves on product differentiation. Around 90% of the accommodation they feature is exclusive to them in the UK, and some of those brands like Sensatori and Holiday Villages are extremely popular and come with a price tag. As for buying an easyJet flight and then sourcing something it the end of it, yes it will be cheaper, but there are compromises.

Hard to see how they justify such a price difference between two London airports

The fact that they serve 2 completely different areas and neither are in London. 110/120 Kilometers is not close. Despite the "London" tag.

Off on your "Thomson greed" high horse again LTNMan!

Thomson are a business and are certainly not about to give away holidays from LTN if the demand is there. LGW is a far bigger base and has much more scope for dynamic pricing as required. Simply switching capacity to LTN is not an option either as the programs are decided way in advance and crewing, handling and airport slots are big factors. IIRC, LGW has a "use it or loose it" slot system similar to LHR and obviously TOM are keen to protect the slots they already have there in light of the continuous expansion of EZY!

As toledoashley mentions, Thomson is no longer chasing the lower end of the market and has been diversifying into more higher yield holidays over recent years. If you look at the financial performance of the company over the last few years, its a strategy that's paying off!

Oh....Have a look at what EZY want to fly to/from some of the bucket and spade destinations from LTN...How about £318 one way from AGP next week!

Just goes to show that Thomson high prices and many passengers not liking the place does not stop them using Luton.

As a side note this morning on BBC breakfast TV the BBC were interviewing people in the terminal and everyone said they liked Luton.

I started working at LTN in 1980. How many years has LTN been trying to get planning permission south side ?

They were also filming at DSA and how many people fly from there. Seems to me what people say and what they do are not exclusively connected.

Atlasjet

Just noticed that next Saturday (30/8) Atlasjet have added a second flight to Luton arr 22.30hrs.
Appears the next six days are fully booked including business from Istanbul.
Good news indeed that the route is becoming established

The Arsenal v Besiktas game is next Wednesday so would be surprised to see it impacting as late as next Satirday. Hopefully it's a sign that the route is doing well. Anyone know what the load factors are so far?

Yeah doesn't make much sense that it is a football flight considering Besiktas play an away game in Turkey on the Saturday.

I see that a drilling machine taking soil samples around the airport has now moved on to an area that will be part of the terminal extension.

In the development brief the removal of old Harrods terminal by the South stands and the old easyjet building should take place before the end of the year.
