Runway Op's

It is now typical of A/C to depart from the intersection of runway 08.

I often see one aircraft back-track whilst another makes an immediate departure from the intersection.

Back in 1985 or thereof I recall watching an empty Monarch 757 depart from runway 26 and start a high rate climb out from less than 3500 feet of tarmac.

During last year I have seen A300 and 767 A/C also depart from the intersection.

But I miss the one-elleven A/C that with shear thunder used up most of the runway with not too much room to spare before rotation and set off the alarms in the cars below!

I am sure others will remember this?

Brilliant news about the Canary Island routes, not had a chance to check but hope they are on opposite days to the Ryanair schedule to the Canaries...

I think Ryanair this year are operating twice weekly to all four of the islands, where they have previously scaled back to just one or two of the islands.

I would imagine easyJet have found the capacity for the Canary Island routes, without basing any new aircraft, as it seems they will be not be operating to Sharm El Sheikh, any time soon. Which has previously been operated 5-6 times a week, and similar(ish) sort of flight sector time.

How will this impact one of LTN's longest serving carriers?? Monarch.

Did they pull their Arrecife route? I thought they had but may be wrong. They still serve TFS though.

How many carriers and what's the frequency of TFS now then including any TOM charters?

EasyJet announces three new winter routes from Luton
So 2 new aircraft in September. I do believe that's when we see more flights to Barcelona, Amsterdam and Zurich.
Also Wizz will go to 2 based tommrrow morning. Some of the flights by this plane will be going at 5:20.

Weekly redevelopment update

Midterm is now getting a fence but there was been no activity on either finishing off the fire station link road or additional work on the dueling of the approach road. As can be seen in the background the multistory car park is still having beams and columns installed and is now on row 20, which caught me out as I thought it was stopping at row 19.

As can be seen the boundary fence was given a curve to allow the car park to obtain its maximum width.

Work has started on the permanent exit route from the pay barriers.

The ground is being raised with hardcore to take out the slope of the old bus station for the terminal extension. Foundations for the new building are being drilled this week.

The first of the steelwork for the pier A infills was installed this week although the Pier B link building hasn't been touched all week.

Another Antonov 12 today, This one arriving from Tel Aviv. Starting to feel like the old days when the Antonov design bureau ones turned up so often.

Is there a second Wizz Airbus now base at Luton as they have a 5:20 and 5:30 departure tomorrow morning?

Also noticed that there are 10 scheduled departures between 06:00 and 06:15

Pictures paint a thousand words. So the airport is spending £110 million but if the Government's Border Force Agency don't sort out staffing numbers then issues will still remain when all the work is finished. Were all the e-gates working? As I have said before if you arrive in a back of a lorry then no passport is needed to enter the UK.

How was the outward leg?

As for the hotel I think this is the 3rd application. All the other plans were approved but the plans keep getting resubmitted as the height of the building and the number of floors keep changing.

There is meant to be another hotel being built next door going up the hill.

I'm still in the queue - live reporting

E gates are open but I'm so far back I can't see how many. I guess I've been queuing for about 30 minutes so far.

I was impressed with Luton on the way out, I'll give my thoughts later but the reception on landing is a bit disappointing

Just opened up the closed E gates and the e hate queue moving better. Looks like I might sneak under 1 hr to clear border control

54 minutes in passports and the baggage hasn't made it to the belt yet.

It would be funny but.....

Shocking experience but all to frequent at Luton. The handling agents can also be poor with long waits for luggage reaching the belts at busy times.

Looks like my experience arriving at Heathrow Terminal 3 last Easter with no E Passport booths operational. In fairness, we were processed within 30 minutes.
