There was one day this week that the only TA flights on time were the Norwegian ones. UA, AA,Delta, all hours late.

2-3 hours delay on most US flights into EDI and GLA this morning. Norwegian actually seemed to be the least affected.

First flight was supposed to be 15th July from OSL to EDI and then EDI-BDL-EDI however they have not flown on any Euro flights yet so I am not sure how this timetable stands right now. They were to get their tails painted in OSL which is maybe why they have not flown since they arrived.

The suggestion here is that they will enter service on Saturday, operating BFS-SWF and EDI-BDL.

Thanks for the link Tubby, a fascinating analysis. It's going to be very interesting to see how it all plays out.

They have indeed. Both are now westbound.

AerRyan

You will find they are operating Non-ETOPS hence the 60 minutes rule as anything over 60 minutes is ETOPS, or to give its correct terminology EDTO.

seems odd, would have though trial training non etops would have been on euro routes. Rushed into TA service ? and presumably on a slightly longer northerly track? Wonder what pax get told about with that lot. Freddie Laker will be spinning....!

Certainly the MAX from EDI took a much more northerly route close to Iceland and over southern Greenland, than the other 738 did.

They entered commercial service today! No commercial ops were preformed in Europe on the 737MAX

With regards to EDTO (ETOPS) on the B737-8, you could have made as many flights both training or commercial, it would make no difference.
The airline has to be approved to operate the B737-8 under EDTO conditions which they are not, they only have the approval for the B737-800.
However the airline approval is currently irrelevant as the B737-8 aircraft does not hold EDTO approval under its type certificate.

Actually, it appears the Boeing 737-800 DOES have ETOPS certification.

Looking at BFS to PVD, yesterday's flight took a direct routing across the Atlantic.

BFS to SWF went way up to Iceland: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/IBK1751/history/20170715/1520Z/EGAA/KSWF
(Ignore flight time lol)

Oh lord, why do people insist on talking about things they haven't a clue about.

Owenc, the SWF flight was on the brand new 737 MAX, the aircraft that we are currently talking about. PVD was operated by a regular 737-800, some of which are ETOPS approved in the Norwegian fleet (they'd use the ETOPS approved ones for the TATL flights naturally.)

In months to come, they will only use 737 MAX on the routes, and the regular 737-800NG only in Europe.

Nobody is debating whether the 737-800 used on these routes has ETOPS approval, we are discussing the new 737-8MAX.

I don't think you know the difference between them.
