A couple of these replaced by A380s would provide a new premium operation on the route. My own hunch is that American, party to the JV on the route, have nixed anything that gives an advantage to the BA side of the agreement.
No. Replace 2 B744 with 2 A380. The increase in seats on the A380 is not actually that substantial, but the increase in attractiveness and potential yield of the aircraft over the competition is substantial. You will even get some Halo Effect on the remaining 747 flights.
T7 at JFK can't take one A380 never mind two. The A380 is a very hard aeroplane to fill and it needs to be as full as possible to pay as Air France keep finding out. The "halo" effect is overstated I think, it's no more a halo than a B747 over a B777 IMHO.

British Airways cuts food service to passengers - ITV News
Guess competition starting to bite them!
British Airways has cut its food service and will no longer provide two meals to economy travellers on flights lasting less than eight-and-a-half hours.
Instead of two full meals, passengers will only receive one as part of the new measures, which also apply to journeys lasting less seven hours for premium economy passengers.
The choices of alcohol and complimentary snacks will not be affected.
A spokesman for BA said: "We offer customers on all of our transatlantic flights a three course meal, bar service and snacks and on our longer transatlantic flights, including to the west coast, customers are offered an extra meal during the flight.
"We regularly review our catering to ensure we are investing where it matters most to our customers."

Skipness One Echo
Really!!
FairDealFrank
Really don't know what you are on about
The B744 is THE premium heavy aircraft of the fleet which is why JFK sees so many.
FairDealFrank
.and the cargo carried on the B747s would go where exactly?

Food Cuts
As recently ex-BA cabin crew I think these food cuts on board make perfect sense, the amount of second service food wasted on board was at stupid levels on most flights I worked on of these lengths. Sometimes there would be a whole cart or even two full of food not eaten by passengers. To be fair they were not the most appetising of 'meals' so no wonder there was always some left over.....the tuck boxes in Traveller however well there were never enough of those, so perhaps BA should load more of these on instead!
Short haul will be next for catering change's, I have a friend working on a catering project at the moment and if it is implemented regular fliers will see radical changes to the on board short haul service

CaptainDooney is correct, in 20 years of being a Gold Card holder my bags have never been first off, nearly always last, even with the yellow first tags or orange priority. You fly QR or AY and it's completely different

Whilst we're on the subject of food - next month I'll be travelling Y LHR-DFW with a large party to attend a friend's wedding. With nothing to lose, to chose to request an 'Asian Vegetarian' for my food. Any ideas what I can expect?!

In some ways introducing Buy-On-Board on short-haul would be an improvement.
The "take it or leave it" option in EuroTraveller has been gradually diminished for over 15 years and has long been unsatisfactory with inconsistent offerings between LGW and LHR that are quite insubstantial for those who are hungry.
Time to accept the market has moved on and give people who want something substantial the opportunity to pay for it.

Think this actually makes a bit of sense from BA actually. 8.5 hours will be less than most eastbound US flights - but the vast majority of these flights are overnight anyway when passengers want to sleep (I've never understood why the ME carriers try and serve you food at 3-4am!). Going westbound, most flights bar the US/Canada NE coast will be over this threshold.
In economy, those snack boxes are absolutely awful at the end of a long haul flight; its not breakfast, its not anything.

Doubt that LH spends plenty with BA. He is an ambassador for Bombardier and is forever tweeting shots of him and hangers on stepping aboard, or stepping off, a Chally of some description.
