Maybe Cat 8 by request as at some other airfields.

I sure it would be CAT 8 by request, El Al or footie charters, just kills any short notice diversions. aka BA747 in the past.

The Cat fire numbers are confusing.

For example NATS show STN as only Cat 7 (can be made up to 8 or 9 with prior warning) it states.

Yet they have regular 747 and MD-11s and (LHR short notice widebody divs) so don't think LTN has anything to worry about.

See what you mean, was just looking at the below link and according to this, El-Al's 777's shouldn't be able to use Luton as it is at present, if it is currently Category 8 rated, as the 777-200's are Category 9.

If they are downgrading the airport to Category 7, it also means according to this below link the 767-300's will be unable to use the airport either. I would imagine this applies to the A300 and A330's which are a similar size, that airlines like MNG and DHL use too.

Gilesdavies,

Is it just a numbers game ie get rid of 2 fire staff per shift to get it down to CAT 7, but in reality have enough staff most of the time to just get it up to 8.

Anyone in the know can you advise ?

Grrr

HZSKI passed over my house 'LOW' on Tuesday....NICE! As VRCBQ, it nearly met it's maker back in 1991!

I understand that although there will be downgrade to CAT 7, the firefighters re-deployed around the airport, can be brought back for the big jets?

Maybe the 'ole farmer boy' can dress up as Buster and scare the children in the tinminal!

Where did the Pegasus leaving Stansted for Luton rumour eminate from? Are they worried about Wizz?

Talking of Wizz, when are they purchasing A350s and doing long haul from Luton? I am joking by the way!
