Flights were bookable for the summer with MS last week, then disappeared the other day. I messaged Egyptair and was told it was a site glitch, as flights were still bookable on their mobile app.
Yesterday the flights disappeared from there too, so sent another message to them, and got this back:
"We're still waiting for the approval of the British authorities to add the rest of the schedule. sorry for that but we don't have enough info about this issue."
Seems strange to remove the flights at such short notice?

Bagso, "Well done Olton Pete, I thought the MAN thread had almost died"!
It seems our friendly Tatton MP is in town today apparently re the 4th platform at the airport and the £600m investment in the Northern Hub. I'm sure you can do the link to the M.E.N Business story better than I can.

Giddy Up Gideon.....
George Osborne kicks off £600m Northern Hub investment at Manchester Airport - Manchester Evening News
They do court him do they not !
Still cannot help thinking a "cuddly arm" does little good.
All he seems to provide is insincere platitudes supporting his own self indulgence ie a photo opportunity.
As soon as he is back in London wining and dining with Willie Walsh, the record will change and it will be "protecting the wider national interests" or as I describe it London !
Me bitter ..never :ok:
Ps will that do Mr MANFOD ?
------------------------------------------------------------------
Does anybody share the view that the "China route" is not the be all and end all ?
I would have thought Hong Kong would be a better option as it might be perceived more as by business over here as a far East Hub ?
..and YES I fully appreciate its China but I get the distinct impression they are more interested in Beijing or Shanghai.
Personally I think that would be too early and we can ill afford another here to day gone tomorrow scenario!
On a theme can they not put the route development people in charge of monitoring account management and route RETENTION ?
We have a big hitter with SAUDIA in March, the possibility of more "if" Rouge make it work and hopefully USAir expansion.
They have to be there for the long term !
Those who have seen the list of routes canned on Plane Mad must roll there eyes in utter disbelief !
Developments on the terminals are to be welcomed just wish there was the same robust impetus on making sure we hung on to services.

Thank you Bagso. I'm sure you noticed in the article Andrew Cowan's reference (yet again) to a China route. I wonder if that will be after the mooted Dublin's and Edinburgh's, and no doubt a few more services from LHR to secondary cities.
Time for another boost for MAN from Gideon to his China colleagues do you think?

Today, history was made. I met a friend of my wife and she informed me that she was off to South Africa in April. Not only that but she'd booked with Egyptair from Manchester! As you can imagine I nearly keeled over in the excitement.
Anyway, it transpires the connection time was only 2hrs in Cairo and I think she said Expedia showed it as the cheapest fare out there. Previously she's used Emirates and Etihad. I told her to bang the drum and tell all her friends about it!

Egyptair offer excellent connections, warp finally to Africa destinations and price wise the only alternative are Turkish, with often very short or very long connections.
Let's hope they don't pull out of MAN at the end of March if she's flying in Apr, eh?

Out of curiosity which portal did you use ?
A timely reminder that Google Flights is pounding the opposition especially Expedia...which last time I looked was showing Saudia flights via BA to LHR, this was on the days that they are due to operate Ex MAN !
Google flights is highly relevant for Manchester as you can very easily select non stop only...
AND using the tip option it will show flights a few days either side of a nominated date. Useful if its not a daily flight !
This is thee most navigable portals with regard to Manchester flights as evidenced by .....
https://www.google.co.uk/flights/#se...2014-05-01;s=0
Manchester - Cairo Direct 26th April £356 Retn 1st May
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for Expedia....well bit of a joke, suggestion is one of impartiality which clearly does not exist.
Manchester - Jeddah out 1st April retn 3rd April
Holidays from Manchester (MAN) to Jeddah | Expedia.co.uk
No flights
Same day same airline same dates
Manchester to Riyadh flights - momondo

It seems Bagso that SV are not one of the 400 airlines that Expedia claim to have searched!!
Out of interest, tried MAN-EWR for dates in May with no airline preference and without ticking direct box. On price, MAN-EWR direct with United was about 22nd down the list with a price of £595 (4 seats left at that price).
Tried again immediately for direct only and the price had risen to £659 with only 1 seat at that price.

I used Expedia like the chappy said and Also I tried a few other regular ones . I have just tried google flights as you suggested and it ' showed' the flights after march , but when you actually go through to book (i.e takes you to Egyptair or a ticket seller site) computer says no! I despair at these flight search sites nowadays , I think we will soon need a search engine to find the best flight search engine

I share your pain !
Must have been mistaken, but I was convinced I had seen SAUDIA on Expedia at some stage but obviously not !
Regards "booking thru" on Google Flights I cannot vouch for that
It does at least guide you to our flights and indeed the airlines that use Manchester (even those which do not operate daily), that is a hell of an improvement on the garbage some of the others provide !
If the airline do not then provide the thru link, well that is poor !
On my search a price was generated so where does that £ originate ?
50% of the booking engines are appalling, unless you know that flight A, specifically leaves from Manchester on Day X you are routed halfway around the world !
There is little point MAG suggesting 22m poeple live within 2 hours of Manchester if those 22m cannot see our "Direct" flights" and are simply sent on a random connection based on "lowest cost", no matter how marginal that is !
THY are superb but one search I did re Manchester - JFK offered them as an option via Istanbul (I jest not), not sure what the answer is but that is clearly beyond barmy ....
The stastical analysis between the market potential of 22m quoted by MAG vis vis the flights on offer especially DIRECTS is completly warped !
"IF" MAG are going to keep banging on about catchment area at least put the same impetus and pressure into making sure the market can see YOUR product offer, especially if it's a direct service!
No doubt these punters will get to their destination (more by good luck than...), but if they are simply filling up any old connecting flight, why bother going after direct flights in the first place ?
You get the impression one dept (Route Dev) is "potentially" going after direct services whilst another (Account Management) then fails to capitalise fully !

I personally always find Kayak and Skyscanner excellent platforms for flight searches, especially kayak for the multi-city option. They were, until last week, showing Egyptair flights

re Egyptair
If we're saying that flights were bookable after March on the direct service but are no longer, and the flights aren't now appearing on the airline's web site, that to me sounds very ominous. I hope it's wrong.
With 3 new long haul services starting this summer, it would be nice if we could avoid another short-lived carrier pulling the plug.

As I posted earlier, MS replied to me they were waiting for authorisation from the British authorities to operate the route. Not sure what permissions they'd need exactly, considering LHR is bookable?
