There are still seats that need to be sold out of both BHX and EMA between now and early September. The world will carry on, and baby is still in business and for the time being still flying aircraft.
Just not to BHD, at least not after June 11. Before accusing me of being a heartless heap of s..., could anyone who has not read my previous post about job loss, please do so.
To me, there are 2 major issues here.
The first, and most important, is the plight of WW employees facing a very uncertain future.
The second, and I make no apologies for saying this, is the plight of the thousands of NI holidaymakers who have had their flights cancelled at short notice.
Is bmibaby seriously trying to re-accommodate them on flights out of Birmingham and East Midlands? Surely, they should have rights to seats before they are sold to other passengers?
It also seems bizarre to me that a company which already operates two airlines BA and Iberia, can take over two more airlines - bmi and bmibaby, and then tell bmibaby passengers they are cancelling their flights at short notice and they cannot be accommodated on any flights operated by BA, Iberia or bmi.
I'm sure my point of view is very simplistic, and there are many reasons why IAG can offer no help to these people other than a refund, but to me it's strange.

Another crass & disrespectful e-mail from the new owners today. Rubbing more salt into the wounds. Saying that a buyer has been found for the regional business.
I am glad that there will be no further job losses in regional, but it just goes to show how unwanted baby really is!! It appears everyone has been looked after apart from poor baby staff.

Not true, there are a lot of mainline groundstaff who handled mainline, regional and baby who are in same position as you. It had and still is a bad time for many of the midland group staff from all departments.
Paxing All Over The World
AGPwallah I dare say that the advertising had been booked and paid for some time ago. the agency whose job it is to implement the adverts will continue to do so until their client tells them to stop.
frequentflyer2
They CAN do that - because the 'Conditions of Carriage' (the small print) that every pax signs says that they can. Provided they give more than the correct amount of notice and give a full refund - that is the end of it.
It's called 'capitalism'.

People keep saying on this thread that if an airline gives two weeks' notice it does not have to re-route passengers. But that is incorrect. All giving the notice does is free the airline from paying additional compensation (250 euros etc.). The passenger still has the right under the EU directive to choose whether s/he wants re-routing or a refund.
I'm sorry to say that Peter Simpson, Managing Director of BMI has confirmed that BMIBaby will close on the 10th Sept 2012 as previously intimated.
There is still a tiny glimmer in that - "even at this very late stage, if a new and credible offer was received to acquire the bmibaby business, either in whole or part, IAG would readily enter discussions. " - but I would think such a buyer would already have shown themselves.
I very much hope all concerned can find new jobs as soon as possible.

Just a numbered other
So someone is likely to step up to the plate now....
And buy what?
An airline with no winter programme, no engineers beyond the end of October and no AOC after the end of BMI, and likely no or few aircraft after BA have taken their pick.
I can see them forming an orderly queue at Donington hall!

Bmibaby's 737-500 have been withdrawn from use for scheduled services. However if a plane does go tech then they still can be used for backup. One 737-300 has also been withdrawn from service but permenately (ODSK)

Just an update on that one. SK is being fixed in the hangar, and the 500s are being used. One was just parked up for the day because there was no room on the apron. Both have flown in the last 2 days and are being rostered to for the forseeable future!!

Just over a week until they close . Looks like the last flight is a PMI-EMA flight. Then off go the aircraft to SNN or DUB most probably.

Any possibility of the aircraft heading to MoD St Athan?
I believe eCube Solutions also look after aircraft in storage. After a rate of 1 x aircraft a month its been quiet so could they be excpeting a few soon? Plenty of room to park them.
