With BA still operating the 733 for the near future, surely these a/c and crew could be integrated into the fleet??

Jobs would be safe though!
I wonder if that's true longer term?

The other things that's "safe" for sure is the steady decline in Terms and Conditions for pilots - that's before we mention brutal management tactics.

Very sorry for the people seeing their jobs go in what is a 'challenging' time for aviation...

Good luck!

Look at the bright side - at least David B is no longer "in charge" of baby. Things could always be worse!!!

Sadly for all of us, the writing has been on the wall for a very long time and although the management team now are a lot better, there has been years of inept mismanagement. The airline had a huge amount of potential when you think about it. First low-cost airline into East Midlands, Cardiff, Manchester and Teeside, plus profiteering from the closure of MyTravel Lite at Birmingham. Rather than build up the brand into a major name in regional low-cost flying, the airline ran from every battle we came up against, except at Fortress East Midlands.

Hopefully the opening of the Flybe and Monarch bases will benefit their own employees to transfer into East Midlands, but then have interviews offered to bmibaby staff before being open to the general public. Maybe that's wishful thinking, but WW has always had the worst management but the best flight crew, cabin crew, ground handling staff and guys in the office. What a terrible waste of what could've been very special.

Huge shame. Hope RYR and EZY don't take over and eventually kill every short haul airline in the UK and ruin everything...could happen.
That is all well and good if it was FR and EZY who were the reason for the demise of baby but they weren't.... atleast not directly. It is very sad to see the end of baby (and bmi) and if only we still had 'British Midland'. However, Easyjet and (be-grudgingly) Ryanair are hugely successful airlines and I don't think we should wish anything other than success just for the sake of seeing some different coloured tailfins at our airports. Otherwise we would see huge job losses and our sentiments regarding WW staff today would just be words.

Second low cost airline into EMA. Baby was a knee jerk reaction to Go's arrival into EMA. Companies founded as knee jerk reactions start on the wrong footing.

Never has an airline with so few aircraft operated from so many bases and lost so much money as BmiBaby. Cardiff, East Midlands, Belfast, Manchester, Teeside, Gatwick.

I would love to know how much the baby experiment cost Bmi group over the years. £300 million? This has to include the £50 million LH paid British Airways to close it down.

Just a quick question about BHD, but the reasons for shutting those routes early, were they some of the worst performing routes?

Lets hope that as many Baby staff pick up new roles with Flybe, Monarch, (and others) when they start picking up the slack.

Probably because the base was the most expensive to operate from. They have no flight crew based at BHD and only a few cabin crew.

It will be interesting to see who and how quickly senior management get other jobs.

It will be even more interesting to see where they get jobs.....

BHD has been canned to allow for flex over the rest of the summer to ensure the med routes can be operated, as baby will start hemorrhaging crew before long.

Not that it makes much difference now, but would that be the famously profitable BMI group? The one that recently changed hands for £350m and slightly more recently for £150m...

Wasn't there a profit related payout in 2005, or did I dream that? You'd need to wind the clock back further than that before you saw a black balance sheet at the hall.

Anyway instead of bitching about whose fault it all was, I'd rather offer sympathy to the guys and girls who didn't deserve this. Been there...

Good luck.
