Evidence

CAA origin and destination data it shows the following:

PMI 400,000 air passengers from BOH 90 min catchment (3.9m people) annually leaking - i.e not flying from BOH but using others such as BRS, SOU, LGW, LHR, LTN, STN etc

ALC is around 250,000 per year
AGP is around 350,000 per year
FAO is around 150,000 per year

We know people drive for 90 mins for Ryanair fares.

Some big volumes for other markets too. Data is on anna.aero under routes shop and Bournemouth airport.

Now of course, it would be impossible to get all of those pax, but extra frequency would stimulate new travellers at low fares.

BOH

WELL done Potwiddler ,exactly what I was trying to get across before being accused of being naïve and made a fatal typo on seat numbers. I know all about yield or to give it a more brutal name PROFIT having run several business in the area and owned one all making PROFIT. We all know that Flybe selling seats to Manchester for just over £12.00 is disaster. People in the area are willing to pay more as the new Hilton proves at nearly £200 a night but enough of that.
News is that a travel company is advertising holidays to Jersey from BOH on Saturdays in the summer! Airline unknown at present.

Websites

The East Midlands one is just as bad.
The problem is that all the MAG websites are handled centrally in Manchester and it appears no one at the other airports is charged with ensuring the information shown on their respective sites is correct or up-to-date. The only things that seems to change regularly are the adverts, which tells you where their priorities are!
You would have thought the management teams at BOH and EMA would take some interest in the content, but on reflection maybe not....!

Hays Travel are operating a series of 5 flights in April / May to Palma using a British Airways EMB 190 on Saturdays out at 1530 rtn 2105

This is the first time they have dipped there feet into an old Bath Travel / Palmair tradition in operating exclusive charters from Bournemouth
If the venture is a success then it could pave the way for more flights the following year using BA aircraft at the weekends

The cruise flights to Venice and Barcelona are also selling well at the moment using the same aircraft which will night stop over the weekend

MARKEYD

MARKEYD, is this a new announcement of additional flights, or the same as was reported on here a few months ago?

The Palma flights are new , the Milan series of flights were cancelled and Hays are using the aircraft for new flights to Palma instead

If proved popular they are considering a season for next summer

Is there a full list of departures dates/times and flight numbers available anywhere for all of these charters?

Does anybody know why Thomson 196 from Barbados flew straight over Bournemouth and landed at Gstwick. There was no fog at the airport and no attempt to hold. Was this planned all along

By 0710 the Bournemouth Airport lovely brand new website was showing it due at 0640 after landing st Gateick at 0700.
Lack of information from the airport today I'm affraid.

It was because they couldn't land at an 'airport' that had a bit of mist...

1. Diverted Barbados flight:

I thought the whole point of the 50m investment in BOH was to allow aircraft to land in CATIII zero visibility conditions?

2. B'mth International Growth scheme:

Instead of resurfacing roads the money should be spent on securing routes which are important to the town - perhaps to the Channel Islands, the cargo services, and securing a route to connect domestically with MAN. A fraction of the amount that is being invested in 'BIG' would be required and would actually result in passengers - not an empty terminal.

3. Pax volumes

BOH handled over 31,000 pax in Dec'15 taking the annual total in 2015 to 705,000. This is likely to massively drop to 500,000 in 2016. easyJet seemed to have much less passengers on the GVA route in Dec compared to the year before? Why is this?

GVA

The CAA stats show some pretty big falls on a lot of skiing routes around the UK including at the big airports, I would imagine primarily down to the poor (mild) weather across Europe. Possibly also Christmas falling on a Friday meant less flights?

Bournemouth is CAT 111 equipped. If Barbados flight diverted due to weather perhaps they had unserviceable equipment on board? Certainly wasn't the inability of Bournemouth to accept them.

I remember a number of years ago Bournemouth moving a road and lengthening the runway. I know it has increased the airports flexibility to handle bigger aircraft that can be flown further but did the airport get value out of the investment? I don't know how long the original runway was but how often is the extra length really needed?

IIRC there were originally traffic signals on Parley Lane when it ran closer to the runway.
