As regards to flowers, is it not the case that the flowers are actually imported FROM the islands rather than the other way round!

And also to all the 'moaners' out there can we drop the discussion regarding drop off/pick up fees as it's been discussed so much on here that it's getting very tiresome and boring, there have been some good replies regarding this subject but others continue to make a big deal out of it.

I am sure there are far more important topics to be discussed on here concerning BOH so can we please on from this monotonous thread.

It makes everyone sound 'tight arse'!

I agree it does make everyone seem "tight arse". But, it also makes the airport seem "penny pinching" & "money grabbing". It all depends on how you look at it.
But, we'll leave it at that.

The mail is moving to stansted, no idea about papers but assume the same? And yes the airport will be losing a lot of money in rent landing fees, airport concessions, extension fees, parking fees. I doubt they'll require 24 hr fire cover or the extra security so a lot of jobs going.

That's a great pity after gaining Flybe to lose the night operations. Have their been any actual announcements?
Presumably the airport will now close at night.

Mail, papers and parcels, aircraft parking and runway slots

It's well documented that the use of the letter post has declined dramatically over the past ten years and inevitable that overnight mail flights would eventually largely disappear. The BOH Mail flight operation has been running uninterrupted since 1980 and has outlasted the operations at Liverpool & Bristol for example, by many years. Pretty good going I'd say.

The decline in mail is set to continue as it is replaced by e-alternatives. the Royal Mail has said so:
http://www.royalmailgroup.com/sites/...0to%202023.pdf

Newspapers too are largely in terminal decline, so for me at least it's no surprise that these flights will come to an end.

Parcels on the other hand are growing, but according to the experts this cargo is likely to continue by road for UK domestic at least. There is plenty of study material out there to illustrate the facts.

The Solution for CI remains to be seen, but links to either STN or EMA freight hubs seem most logical.

But For most UK mainland airports, the decline in mail and newspaper demand means fewer mail and Cargo flights.

However it does also mean that more overnight aircraft parking stands will become available. For most air transport airports in UK (away from LHR, LGW ) it is these stands that are in short supply, not the infamous runway slots.

The outcome of the loss of mail flights for those airports will free up new parking capacity, it is likely in many cases to lead to more based aircraft and more passenger flights.

Every cloud!

Freeing night slots doesn't apply at bournemouth surely? Losing the income from the mail can't be easily replaced ,it would take a dramatic increase in daytime revenue to make up for it so it looks,if the rumours are true, the airport will have to save costs ( job losses unfortunately?) as it won't stay open all night with nothing happening , though there are sometimes late passenger flights.

The revenue from the industrial estate goes to MAG, not to bournemouth.

End of an era?

I'm not sure if this effects BOH but Atlantic Airlines flights to the CI are bound to be reduced if the recently announced proposal to transmit daily papers electronically to Jersey and then print them there is implemented.

Bournemouth handled 91 , 455 passengers in July up 9.7 % this figure has not been reached since 2008 / 9 !!

Obviously down to Flybe and the new services although with Ryanair missing 11 flights a week it could have been much higher

Flybe

Biarritz 469 59 pax
Paris CDG 2072 58 Pax
Dublin 2057 57 pax
Amsterdam 1890 56 pax
Deauville 596 17 pax

Toulon for June saw 875 26 pax

Manchester 6006 56 pax
Glasgow 4716 44 pax
Jersey 2994 42 pax

Ryanair and Thomson averaged about 92 % load factors on there services
Interestingly the Deauville and Toulon flights seem to go quite full over the weekend but terrible for the mid week

Very good results

Fantastic that Flybe seem to have got it right this time around on the Manchester route.

A little disappointed that Jersey isn't doing better though: this is such a perfect route for BOH given the market between the two. I'm also surprised Amsterdam isn't carrying more people.

What's the betting on S16 for Flybe?

Manchester three daily?
Dublin daily?

Can't agree with you totally about the Jersey route because duplicate services out of Southampton are bound to eat into the demand to/from Bournemouth. This will not improve over the winter.
However, I have to admit that the overall performance from Bournemouth is encouraging.

Interestingly SOU-JER is also up on last year, so it is clearly a strong market from the south coast. Good to see the majority of the routes performing well. I suspect Toulon will return 1x or 2x weekly next year based on the loads and the information about it performing well on weekends, Deauville seams less likely to return though.

BA Embraers to be used, which of course means it's actually Cityflyer, which presumably means weekend rotations. Might take a look :-)

You are correct. Flights will be operated by BA Cityflyer. Flights will be more than likely be operated by a 98 seat E190.

I also tried and to see if I could find out any info on the Bath Travel website. All I managed to find was this page on there website. The holidays at the bottom of this page are all holidays with flight to and from BOH.

Exclusive Flights from Bournemouth | Hays Faraway

Looks like Bath Travel are planning to use BACF to operate flights to Barcelona, Milan and Venice.

Bath Travel have published a separate brochure for these new flights which are available in there stores and eventually on line
They also publish a separate brochure for there Fly Caribbean charters to Barbados which is available in store

The thing with Bath Travel is very little is put online as there client base is very much down to non users of the Internet , word of mouth and people who want a bespoke service and our willing to pay for it
A good example of this is the extra Barbados flight which has just been added in Feb and sold out within 3 weeks without ever having to go " global ! "

BA flights are as follows

Sat 23 April Milan / Venice
Sun 24 April Barcelona
Sat 30 April Milan / Venice

Sun 1 May Barcelona
Sat 7 May Milan / Venice
Sun 8 May Barcelona
Sat 14 May Milan / Venice
Sun 15 May Barcelona
Sat 21 May Milan / Venice
Sun 22 May Barcelona

Almost seems like a scheduled service from BA at Bournemouth with weekly weekend flights. Will it continue beyond May? Seems strange to have an intense April and. May schedule and then nothing for the remainder of the summer...
