I believe, during the winter season, when the original poster is flying, the TOM 767's are to be re-configured for long haul flying so he wont be experiencing an all Y config for that flight anyway

TUI expected to announce at Farnborough that they're exercising options for 10 more 737 MAX (for a total of 70 firm with 80 remaining options) and another 787 (they currently hold options for 11 -8s and 1 -9).

I read recently in the inflight book that Thomson are going to start breaks to Miami, Vegas, new york, Bangkok, Hong Kong, kuala lumpa and Singapore. It says all will be revealed soon on Thomson.co.uk. Does anyone know if these will be on 787?

As far as I'm led to believe it won't be using TOM metal, it'll be an expansion to their 3rd party flying programme using carriers such as BA and Virgin, with exclusive hotels that aren't available to the UK market etc.

these will be on Scheduled carriers, it is a direct result of paretn company TUI AG deciding to sell Hays & Jarvis that previous also traded as Thomson Worldwide/Thomson Tailormade. So TUI UK Ltd will now start selling the product previously sold by a sister company.

Last night Sunday while on the way back from a few days at our villa in Cyprus I witnessed and experienced one of most strange and confusing crewing/operational things I have ever seen.
TOM have lots of flights arriving into PFO on a Sunday evening and do aircraft swaps on quite a frequent basis. Last night the inbound 757 (BE) from BHX arrived just before 23:00 local and was to be swapped with a 757 (EU) coming in from Luton great untll the LTN flight picks up a delay of 2hrs30 mins.
So to me the obvious thing would have been to cancel the aircraft swap but oh no Thomson came up with another idea due to duty hours lets send the BHX aircraft(BE) and crew back to Birmingham but with the Luton pax onboard to then coach them back to LTN.
The Poor old BHX pax including us had to wait around until 01:40 to leave and got back to BHX at 04:00 what made things even worse was TOM then ferried the original LTN aircraft (EU) back there to operate this mornings series of flights.
To me and the cabin crew onboard we agreed cannot see logistically why ops did this as had all the additional cost of coaching BHX=LTN along with the fuel to ferry the aircraft back.

Unfortunately in this day and age, it's actually cheaper for the airline to make (what seems) illogical decisions but let's weigh it up.
Option 1 - the situation you faced
2 coaches at say £300 each = £600
Cost of ferrying the aircraft = say £10,000
TOTAL = £10,600
Option 2 - the situation Thomson could have faced if the delay exceeded 3 hours
220ish people on a 757 meaning:
220 x £460 compensation = £101,200
If the BHX crew had gone out of hours this would have certainly meant that the passengers probably would have been sent back to the hotel, meaning you can add hotel, food and transfer costs to option 2...

Unless you work for a certain LoCo carrier that is. I was delayed over 4 hours on a flight from the UK to Portugal thanks to the French ATC strike. I got speaking to the cabin crew and asked how it affected their hours. Answer was, it didn't, as the four hours they sat on the apron in Portugal waiting to do the outbound were not classed as work. That despite them keeping the pax fed and watered, not to mention the all important being there for our safety. She assured me that it was just the same for the flight deck. Nobody was on the clock or getting paid until they were ready to roll. I guess that is one way of keeping the fares down!
I was more upset by it than she was as, thanks to the current employment situation in Portugal, she considered herself lucky to have any job at all. What a refreshing attitude but don't let MoL know or he'll find some other way to screw them. We pax don't know a half of it.

That's interesting BN2A but I still don't understand how they can be on duty but not be paid. Like the lass said, she just considers herself lucky to have a job. Good for her.

ImPlaneCrazy- Yes I agree that with the EU directive sometimes strange decisions have to be made but on Sunday it was a slightly different situation as LTN is due to depart PFO 23:25 and BHX 23:35 so you were always going to have one set of pax delayed.
Just still cannot understand why BHX aircraft and crew didn't take BHX pax back and the LTN pax waited for the delayed aircraft whom would have been fine with hours as didn't leave until 18:35 in the end.
The only thing I could think of was there was a TUI executive on the LTN flight

TOM 374 was due out of EMA at 10.55 this morning. All pax ex 16 selected at random for enhanced security checks were on board by about 11.15, my son was kept in the terminal whilst his wife and 3 and 5 year old children boarded.
There followed a long period with nothing happening, after which they were told by what sounded to be a very embarrassed captain that there would be an indeterminate delay whilst staff were roaded up from Birmingham to carry out a security check on the aircraft. They eventually took off at 14.28.
Three questions:-
1. Is it company policy to split a young family?
2. What is this business of randomly holding back a small percentage of pax for enhanced security checks?
3. Why do they delay an aircraft for 3 1/2 hours for aircraft security checks?
