For me the downfall of bmi happened when James(bankrupted ansett)Hogan came back.He brought with him his aussie cronnies and spent a fortune. He was known to us as smiler. He put the company into a downward spiral and all the top mangement thought he was sent from heaven to rescue us all.He placed into the outstations managers who were not interested in the people, place or company. In Man we had a station manager who would not supply the crew with a water fountain because he was saving his budget to buy cameras to spy on the ground crews at ticket desk check-in,gates etc. Then saw his ass when told it was illegal.

Its not luck, it's jobs they'll need
Having rolled through (or over?) bmibaby & Regional over the last few weeks the SS panzer division will launch it's final assult on bmi mainline soon, the classic pincer movement (divide and rule) has left the old guard looking isolated and bloated.
The troops manning fortress LHR keep chanting the same mantra, you can't sack us cos were part of the union, well not whilst you've got your crappy little Embraers in LHR cos the scope claus ses so!!
It will cost them a fortune to get rid of us so you might as well keep stumping up £3m a week, the chant goes, if it was that easy to over run our union NT & co would have done it years ago, anyway we are number 1 at LHR now, it ses so on the way in??
No other airline offers so much space on an A319 with just a dozen passengers you have lots of room to move about, so were all right, got it!! we just need to get rid of the trashy, low rent, bast*rd airline that is know as bmibaby with its scum like passengers and crews and our worries are over, the proper well dressed high rolling passenger will flood back to us, safe in the knowledge that ever flight crewed by two Captains and a cabin crew ratio of 3 passengers for each crew memeber and free collection from home anywhere in the UK in a Merc and a quadzillion Diamond club miles thrown in, we know were safe cos PS said it was so!!!!

Question for someone who would be in the know here on the following subject;
I have built up a significant amount of diamond club miles and fly bmi alot. If bmi was wound up (hopefully not) and slots sold etc what would happen to my points/miles would they still be useable on Star partners?

So does anybody have any idea what will be announced for Mainline/Regional on Wednesday? Apparently Balpa have been briefed have heard that they had to go to ABZ end of last week for short notice meetings with management.
Fingers crossed for everyone concerned.

The news this week will probably not be good for some employees but given the state of the economy Gordon Brown has created it is not surprising.
I wish all of us the best of luck this week and hope the news will not be as bad as the rumour mill suggests

Crappy Little Embraers.......?
Quote.... "The troops manning fortress LHR keep chanting the same mantra, you can't sack us cos were part of the union, well not whilst you've got your crappy little Embraers in LHR cos the scope claus ses so!!"
It is these Crappy Little Embraers that have successfully slot filled in place of those even Airbus that try to fly the same slot sectors 1/8 full. This is economies of scale and the Embraers operating for mainline have actually extended the life of some routes and the associated staff employment.
bmi problem - no effective marketing outside the M25. There is no reach to get the bmi brand known to the UK people. The success or failure of bmi defends of effective marketing.... and on that note, a recent visit to Aberdeen and they are still advertising bmi to Mumbai.... what a joke.
We are all one company regardless of the divisions and differing fleets operated, all trying to save the SAME company. All this 'us and them' in fighting as shamefull.
Rant over.

OK Spicejetter -
So you don't like me much. Well that's fine; I can live with that. But with the personal criticism taken on board, let's look at the facts.
My posting was made in response to your suggestion that Virgin should axe all its Manchester operations and instead force its customers to change flights in London. I note that your latest posting at 17:20 does not in any way address the counter argument I made against your original suggestion. Instead, you introduce a red herring - Newcastle departures - and make a case for folks in that area flying via London. You are addressing an issue which has not been raised. NCL does not have daily services to Orlando, and possibly not even a year-round service. It is not "clueless" to select the only existing option, is it? So the market dynamics are not comparable.
So let's return to the original point upon which I did disagree with you. Why should Virgin abandon it's market-leading position to Florida ex-MAN in the hope that affected customers will book via London instead? Criticize me personally all you like, but please argue the original issue whilst you are at it. It was you suggested that Virgin should abandon MAN (not me), so please be prepared to justify your position on that specific topic.
I will address two statements which you included in your 17:20 posting. You have no confidence in "back from the dead" Travelcitydirect. Well, this company was part of XL Group, but it was purchased from the liquidators by Virgin. So it is as financially secure as any other part of Virgin Atlantic's operation. And you wouldn't book with them. Well fine! That's exactly the point ... Travelcitydirect is a budget brand (unattractive to some) and Virgin Holidays is a more upmarket brand (appealing to a different market segment). But both brands help to fill the same flight ...
And you mention COST. Well ... we've just said it ... Travelcitydirect is the budget brand which provides a solution for the most price-sensitive customers. And remember that the "big two" tour operators are also active in the Manchester-Florida market which helps to keep prices competitive. If travellers opt to change planes in London instead of using these direct options, they *may* find a price saving (although not necessarily). But then you also need to place a valuation on the extra hassle and stress incurred, the risk of missed connections and the additional time expended. It would need to be a fantastic fare to make sense over the budget options already offered direct from MAN.
So, I don't mind what you do with your neck. But I do ask you to address the actual topic under discussion in any response and not start trying to justify an entirely unrelated point. And finally, I take note of your newly revealed 'Northern' credentials but politely point out that your posting profile lists your location as ... LONDON.
Cheers, SHED.
PS. Apologies to BMI readers that this discussion point is rather more Virgin Atlantic orientated than BMI. But this is the thread on which I have been challenged, so this is where I must respond. If the mods wish to relocate both Spicejetter's postings and my own to the Virgin thread that would make sense to me.

Back to bmi, I totally agree with you Mod Kit, eight years after the branding we are still referred to as "British Midland" by the vast majority of the travelling public, especially overseas visitors, and even some other Star Alliance airlines. That was one effective re-brand

frontcheck,
nothing to worry about.
I first saw 'British Midland' at Castledon in 1965.
As an East Midlander myself, It's great to see you still around, and I hope one day you will have to courage to be British Midland again. Teach these re-branding muppets a lesson.
Nice colour scheme though.

Facelookbovvered,
No I have not been drinking, but feel like it. I am a long time BM employee and hate to see what was once a good company with a reputation be rebranded, split up, lose direction, become worthless and worst of all, see all the staff that have worked their bo***cks off for BRITISH MIDLAND be given the heave ho because of 10+ years of mis-management, which I also add LH were part of and condoned. It does not feel great to not have any pride in the job and the company I work for, but cling on in hope just like all those others who have been there for BM through thick and thin, that think things might turn around for the better. Fat chance...

Guys, I flew with Qatar airways on quite a lengthy travel and redeemed miles on my Qatar privilege account. Need to book a return flight soon with BMI from EDI-LHR which is 9000 miles or something?
Am I able to send away the Qatar tickets to redeem miles on my BMI diamond account since they are partners? BMI state on their website 1 point per every mile flown with Qatar so if I could redeem those miles that would save me quite a bit of money.
Thanks

Just change bmi back to British Midland (there's probably a few frames still in the old blue/grey colour scheme) leave baby as bmibaby or Bmybaby, a tenner worth of stickers and the jobs done.
