After two months without an issue of Plain Talking, when a June/July edition was released the front page introduction of the new Chairman was a quite positive step; I am more optimistic than I was a month ago. I do not see a link with Virgin in our near future- and in the longer term it is more likely we will be buying them.

Not simply because the two will fit together very well but I hope, as in the US, they would make some drastic changes to BD's on board service.
VX is supposedly an entirely separate company.

Have you been on VS lately?

The service in Upper has been ravaged by the bean counters to the extent that they now have nothing left to differentiate them from the competition, and if they chop anything else out of the Y service you'll end up with a long haul LCC. 600 crew are getting the chop as well. God help BD if the on board service is remodelled in VS's image.

I would really like to see BD do well out of the LH takeover. With a proper strategy and good management I really hope that the airline can get back to how it used to be before modular mayhem was introduced.

If BD's onboard service is remodelled to look like another company's service, my bet is on DLH's...

Yes, VX is a separate company, as is Virgin Money, Virgin Media etc.

They own less of a stake in the airline due to US laws yet it has Virgin on the front so I would imagine what Virgin say, goes.

Nope. Look at Virgin Blue, they told Branson to *** off and ran the company their own way. They are NOT the majority shareholder so standard rules apply.

Would SRB have the right to remove the Virgin name from any brand?

If so...that could be quite costly...

ETOPS

I think your Missus well have a much clearer idea by the Autumn of where its going, TOYS, A B C D plus BD leases all end in the first half of 2010 and next Summers program (already on sale) will require at least the same number of aircraft as this year if not more.

Yes he does but it will cost him.

I'm told he's replacing many of his upper class seats with economy ones in an attempt to keep bums on seats.Staff who have survived round 2 of job cuts believe round 3 is just round the corner.

Thanks for the info. She won't be sad to see the back of TOYDeath - it's a disgraceful heap. As to next years program, they will need to let their staff in on the secret soon as uncertainty can lead to job applications elsewhere.......

Lets face it, some CC call an aircraft a heap if it has a couple of U/S brewers and a few seat covers need changing !. The "Drama Queens" (which is by no means every cabin crew member) will always complain about something. All baby aircraft are completely airworthy although a couple may be slightly cosmetically challenged

Sorry, but I doubt LH would sell BD to Virgin, nor do I see the logic in LH doing a deal with Virgin, either by acquiring SQ's stake (how long have they been trying to sell out??) or a joint-venture.

Even if LH wanted to sell BD entirely, I just don't think Virgin have the money to buy it. Also, LH's business model is based around feeding traffic into its long-haul networks at FRA and MUC etc. Why would LH want to divert traffic away from its own long-haul network into Virgin (which is also outside *A and the TATL JV with UA) unless it owned 100% of the company?

All I can see happening in the immediate future is LH using BD's slots where advantageous for more feeder traffic into its European hubs, and a bit of TLC to improve revenue management, the e-commerce operation etc. LX has done very well after its acquisition by LH, and hopefully BD will do so too. Personally, I think BD staff have a lot of reasons to be optimistic.

Using the slots for more feeder traffic into DLH's European hubs is an interesting idea, but probably not the answer except on a very limited scale; Lufty have enough slots in their own right to be able to do that anyway. Increase in passenger numbers can probably be better achieved by replacing CRJs and 737s with 319-321s.
Given the success of the midhaul network, further expansion to suit the needs of the oil industry, and to integrate travel between the centres of that industry, seems more likely.
Of course, I am still only speculating!

I totally agree. And given that most of the midhaul destinations are muslim states the Virgin Brand would not go down well at all in this market. However if DLH were to buy Singapore's stake in VS there could be much more co-operation between the 2 companys.

Lufthansa and Singapore are alliance partners; one owns a large chunk of VS and the other most of bmi. Therefore the relationship between bmi and VS needs some kind of resolution/agreement so that bmi and VS compete against BA without damaging each other, and consequently their major shareholders.
Talks between these four companies are bound to be taking place to form a strategic plan for their mutual benefit.

Only 17 on the morning flight - and they were all accommodated on the following flight! Not good loads then...
