Lufthansa and Singapore are alliance partners; one owns a large chunk of VS and the other most of bmi. Therefore the relationship between bmi and VS needs some kind of resolution/agreement so that bmi and VS compete against BA without damaging each other, and consequently their major shareholders.
Talks between these four companies are bound to be taking place to form a strategic plan for their mutual benefit.
