Suppose that the lead-in one way was maybe 62 euros instead of 124 euros ?
Would that be sensible ? Anything below that and I begin to wonder whether it's worth selling seats on a prime time flight to customers who won't pay a prime time price.

Presumably, LH group can think of other uses for an A320 and associated LHR slot if necessary...

.

I did a check on the four Mondays in Nov. In all cases the one way fare DUB-LHR is:

6.45am BD EUR128.70 (It's gone up by another fiver)

6.40am EI EUR30.99 (incl EUR6.00 handling fee)

New routes:

LHR-NCE daily from 25/8 and twice daily from 30/10
LHR-AGA twice weekly from 29/10

Source: Bmi to launch Agadir and Nice routes - Business Traveller

Presumably using slots and a/c released by the end of LH Italia?

LHR-NCE is not really a new route it's a return to a route that was dropped in late 2008 (?)

It's also a route that was operating summer only some years if I am not mistaken it didn't operate over the winter of 2006 so as mentioned below, the launch timing seems a little odd. Mind you it's BMI so enough said.

Am I alone in thinking that you'd normally launch a route to Nice at the start of the summer and then double the frequency just before the summer peak, rather than starting at the end of August as the peak is just finishing, then doubling the frequency for the winter as the market falls to its lowest level?

Most odd.

Bmi return to Nice

I can only think that they want to be established on the route before next summer?

BA did? use a 767 on this route and there is plenty of year round business traffic, but once a day doesn't work the timings out of LHR are ok but less attractive for inbound passengers.

In the past bmi did many European routes but killed them by messing with timings and frequencies, still I agree with other that a Summer start would have been less of a cash drain.

Has anyone at bmi confirmed or denied the CEO rumour?

Wolfgang neither confirmed it nor denied it when he was asked.

Make of that what you will.

Nice seems to have occured due to reductions to Berlin. Goes from 5xDaily to 4xDaily in late August, and down to 3xDaily in October. Source - the airline route news blog

So that still leaves the question of what happens to the LHR-MXP slots. And don't bmi also have an aircraft currently wetleased to LH Italia that will become spare?

Maybe it would allow for a LHR-VIE-MAN-VIE-LHR in co-op with Austrian ? OS has always been interested in re starting a MAN-VIE but it's been on the back burner for a while now.

The LHR/MXP slots are coming back to Midland, and they will be used on LHR/NCE and LHR/AGA.

Once upon a time ... BMI used to serve NCE with double daily rotations, roughly the same time every day, 7 days a week. Then they started changing frequencies and timings, reducing the offer, and losing the high revenue traffic. Eventually they closed the route.

I hope this time someone at Castle Donington (1 'n' or 2?) has sharpened their pencil but I fear it will be the same again, as it's starting as a daily service then reducing I think to 3 a week. The service is not even shown in their online timetable.

It will be interesting to see if this works.

bmi to Nice

My memory is that when bmi last served Nice, a F100 was used most of the time (as was the case with the Palma route from LHR

Nice

Capetonian , don-t know what dates you-re looking at.

LHR/NCE starts 25Aug at 1/day and increases to 2/day (1 @ w/end) from winter schedule. This has been on the Flybmi website for abt a week.

F100's left in summer 2005.

Nice and Palma both last operated on the A320 family.

BCALBOY thanks for that. I looked on the .pdf timetable and it doesn't show NCE at all.
http://www.flybmi.com/downloads/bmi/BMIPointToPoint.pdf

It is shown on the timetable and is as you say. I only hope they make a success of this route.

As we all know, brussels airlines is wetleasing 2 Embraers of bmi regional to operate their 3 daily flights from BRU to NCL and BRS; simultaneously, SN also wetleases an Austrian Arrows DH8 for their trice daily HAJ flights and wants to take over the BRU-STR flights from LH too: in relation to this, brussels airlines have recently said they are going to add a small number of turboprops to their fleet to operate on thin routes of theirs. Now, although it wasn't specified, this all sounds as if they will start to insource the wetleases currently operated by bmi regional. Does anybody knows more about this? Till when are the wetleases supposed to last?
