nice to see MSE was used along with other London area airports for diversions today due to the fire in the tower at LHR, i dont know what else ended up at MSE but the BA885 from OTP did, an A319.

Wonder if anyone working at Manston has noticed that the UK airspace has been closed
As we have at least one cargo flight a day nowadays yes, the handlers were noticeably bored this week.

BAE Systems Press Release
Aviation Capital Solutions Acquires Five BAe 146s from BAE Systems
30 Apr 2010 | Ref. 084/2010
Hatfield, United Kingdom. UK Company Aviation Capital Solutions has acquired five BAe 146-300 regional jetliners from BAE Systems for use in the European air charter market and Africa with existing clients.
The aircraft are due for delivery through to June and initially will be based in Europe on ACMI contracts (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance) to cater for last minute aircraft capacity requests from charter companies and also scheduled airlines.
Maintenance for the aircraft and engines will be carried out by a related company, Avman Engineering, at Manston Airport in Kent which is offering fixed price engine support. Avman is a European Aviation Safety Agency-approved maintenance, repair and overhaul organisation with BAe 146 and Avro RJ line and base maintenance approvals and a Honeywell ALF 502/LF507 engine shop.
Jeff Ashfield, Managing Director of Aviation Capital Solutions, said today: “We believe that the benefits of operating the BAe 146 in our chosen market will give us the necessary competitive edge to win business and this acquisition has already led to positive enquiries.”
Steve Doughty, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing for BAE Systems Regional Aircraft Asset Management added: “The acquisition by Aviation Capital Solutions shows that the BAe 146 still has an important role to play in the prime European market. For the competitive ACMI sector a combination of low acquisition cost, good operational economics and strong passenger appeal are all vital factors and the BAe 146 is well placed to serve this niche.”

Manston Hangar,
Good to hear that the hangar now seems to have a dependable operator. Does anyone have any news of the unregistered former 5X-JOE DC10-30F airframe that was parked up on the airfield until last week? Must be under cover somewhere as it required major work even for a ferry flight.

It was in the hangar for a bit, engine runs carried out today, then she'll go back to her old parking spot. No intention of her flying, just checking engines for serviceability.

Flybe’s daily scheduled passenger flights between Manston airport and Edinburgh, starting on Thursday (May 27), have boosted the isle’s jobs market, according to Infratil, Manston’s owner.
The company says it has recruited 20 new staff, all of whom live locally, to ensure the passengers of Flybe, Newmarket Holidays and CI Travel, which operates charter flights and holidays to Jersey, have the best possible experience when passing through the airport.
The new staff will be responsible for check-in and customer service, as well as sales and marketing, operating the shop and airport security.
Infratil says 112 people are now employed at Manston to manage the passenger and freight operations, including the recruits, who have just completed their training.
Tom Wilson, chief executive of Infratil Airports Europe, said: “With the new passenger services we are now able to deliver on our promise to increase the number of people employed at the airport and play an even bigger role in supporting the local economy.
“As well as the 112 employees, the airport also does business with more than 100 companies across Kent.”
Marta Easton, Manston’s senior customer services supervisor, said: “The team is very excited about the return of daily flights to the airport.
“By working closely with Flybe and charter airlines we are confident that our passengers will receive great customer service on a par with, if not better than, any other regional airport.”
The service will be operated by a 78-seat Bombardier Q-400 turboprop aircraft, claimed to be one of the quietest of its type.
Flights take 80 minutes and are priced £24.99 each way.

Flybe, the UK’s Number One Domestic airline, has today not only waved off its first-ever flight to Edinburgh from Manston but also announced a second brand new year-round service, this time a six-day a week service to Manchester from September 6th with one way fares on sale now from £24.99 including taxes and charges.
The new service will be operated by the airline’s fuel efficient Bombardier Q400 aircraft and reinforces Flybe’s commitment to Kent and to its presence at Manston Airport.

Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer, comments: “Flybe is especially pleased to be able to announce this second new route to Manchester from Manston on the day when we see our first ever flight from Manston to Edinburgh take off. This additional service, coming so soon after the launch of our new Scottish route, is further evidence of our commitment to Manston and re-iterates our contribution to assisting the airport’s future growth.”
Tom Wilson, Chief Executive of Infratil Airports Europe, the owner and operator of Manston said: “Flybe’s decision to add a daily service between Manston and Manchester is fantastic news and a vote of confidence, not only in the airport and the people that work here, but also in Kent as a short break destination.
“The sales for the flights to Edinburgh have shown that there is strong latent demand from across Kent for flights from a hassle-free regional airport like Manston and Flybe’s decision recognises that commercial reality.
“We are confident that business and residents in the county will vote
with their feet when looking to travel to Manchester and choose Flybe from Manston rather than driving or going by train.”
Concludes Mr Rutter: “Flybe prides itself on ensuring that travellers have the widest possible choice of affordable, quality flights to attractive business and leisure destinations. We would advise passengers, whether they are travelling to Manchester for business or pleasure, to book early to take advantage of the lowest possible fares.”
