Don't have such a downer on CWL
Guy's don't have such a negative attitude about CWL, I am regular user and to be honest, it suits my needs fine, I can fly to most places I would want to go to in the UK, if I want to fly long haul I go to Heathrow simple as that.
We have to understand that Cardiff will never be a busy airport and to be honest, if we had even more flights then we would lose the fact I can be through security in less than a minute when flying out and be out of the terminal in less then 5 minutes when arriving.
As airports go, I think CWL has some of the friendlest staff in any airport I have been to around the world. If you take a step back and look at the bigger picture, you will see that CWL is a cracking little airport with cracking staff!
I flew back from EDI last night and was sat to a couple who fly into Cardiff for business every few weeks, they said they loved flying into CWL as it was totally hasstle free.

It's very hard not to be a doomer when your job maybe at stake, it was looking bad through the winter and with TNT, XL, Zoom gone, Reduction in Thomson Schedule, poor economy and now a possibility of Baby dissapearing if LH doens't want them then a lot of jobs at CWL have and will go.
The airport cannot even to afford to expand it's parking and have to take up part of the airfield in the summer along with unfinished Departure Lounge.
Lufthansa may want to keep Baby and reduce it's operations from other hubs and maybe expand at CWL with a new aircraft, or Flybe may see this as a chance with no Lo-Cost competiton if Baby goes. It will certainly be a very interesting 12 months.

Airport manager wins unfair dismissal case

A Cardiff Airport manager who was sacked weeks after being told her job was safe won her appeal for unfair dismissal yesterday, the Western Mail reports. Lesley Evans, 54, from Barry, was commercial operations manager at the airport until her dismissal in June.
An employment tribunal in Cardiff heard how on March 18 Mrs Evans was told she would be getting more work. Her boss, Steve Hodgetts, said she was going to be promoted to business development and commercial director and as a result would get some of his duties.
Mrs Evans told the tribunal: ‘Steve Hodgetts told me my job was assured and that I would be taking on more work. I was glad to hear my job was safe and happy to take on more.’ But within weeks she was called to a meeting and told her job had ‘disappeared’ and she was no longer an essential part of the business.
The airport’s managing director Patrick Duffy defended the decision to make her redundant and rejected her appeal, saying her role was a luxurious one that was not needed. Mr Duffy, who joined Cardiff Airport in February, said: ‘My job was to join the company and challenge the status quo.’
The tribunal was told the conversation saying Mrs Evans’ job was safe was a failure of management and the news of her redundancy came as a bolt out of the blue with no information given to her so she could understand why she had been selected for redundancy. She was awarded compensation of £4,501.
After the hearing Mrs Evans told the newspaper that she was relieved to have come to the end of the issue. She added: ‘Before all this I had an excellent working relationship with Steve Hodgetts and lots of the airport staff. It was never about the money but I am just very relieved to have won.

I don't think that has anything to do with the LH deal, this maybe something to do with the winter schedule and that it's a reduction of at least 50% at CWL.
The effects of LH shouldn't come into fource until January when the deal is done,

MON containers...
What happened with the container lifts on the MON fr SFB this am ? Managed to get one cont off then broke down.... second lift couldn't be started so third had to be hauled from service bay (lucky service was just finished ) ... by staff called in to get it going. Over 2 hours for pax luggage - thankfully summers nearly over - imagine all this with a full O/B schedule to deal with ?? Well done to evryone who had to deal with pax etc, but we need to get act together on a liitle forethought ie running-up plant 5/6 hours before ?

Interesting, although I saw a report this morning stating that Mr O'Leary would onyl consider transatlantic flights if he could secure cheap long haul aircraft from rivals

As for the Times report, I don't think anything is set in stone about the sell off of Regional and Baby as yet, merely speculation on the reporters part....well that was my interpretation anyway.

Airport reporting Baby's sixth birthday of ops at CWL as 'breaking news' !
Lets hope its not the last in view of the LH takeover.
I eagerly read the news item thinking (foolishly)it would include details of additional aircraft/routes as part of the birthday celebrations!....Dont be silly,this is CWL not BRS!
I am sure that the new LIS route for S09 is replacing an existing one.
Oh well at least I can now book my city breaks next year from Bristol with the Easy S09 launch today.....certainly not going to get VCE or NCE from good old CWL!

Laser Pointers..
I've just read that high power laser/astromomy pointers are being aimed at aircraft at night? Is this a regular occurence or, perhaps, something to do with Guy Fawkes night?
