I think the name was 'AutoBox' (but I may be wrong too!) The same as BRS I heard too, let's just hope that the automated announcements will call the right flight to the right gate!!!!!!!

I think this will be a great system especially with the terminal development planned for the end of year.

I do like the Bristol information displays with the airline logo and estimated time until boarding. This gives the passenger no reason why they missed their flight.

Maybe thats the software that will be used on the CWL screens in the dep lounge, something more colourful and easy to read.

Yes, I agree, the airline logos is a good idea especially when there's usually 2 charters going to the same place and the endless confusion with the WW/BE EDI's! Also, the ''boarding in **mins'' or ''gate opens **mins'' idea I have previously put forward to airport/handling personnel but fell on deaf ears, but would probably be badly managed anyway - a FIDs Supervisor is needed if anything is to go virtually 100% smoothly.

Maybe a letter to Margaret James is the way to go and therefore they have to make an official response.

You could bring it up for a specific group who are talking to the airport on many subjects

Highland Airways update

Published: 25 March 2010
The Cardiff - Anglesey flights will not be operating until further notice. Passengers who have booked on the flights should contact Highland Airways.
The CAA has confirmed that the company was not protected by the Atol scheme administered by the CAA, and passengers who booked directly with the airline will not be covered.
However, if passengers have paid for flights by credit card or a Link debit card they may be protected by the Consumer Credit Act. If passengers booked their ticket through a travel agent they should speak to the agent.
The Welsh Assembly Government has issued the following statement:
The Assembly Government will take action to maintain North - South air link
Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones says the Welsh Assembly Government will take action to maintain the air link between North and South Wales following the news that Highland Air has gone into administration.
Reacting to the development, Mr Jones said:
"This service as been a huge success with almost 40,000 passengers using it since it started. It has far exceeded our expectations and we will now work tirelessly to minimise any break to flights.
"The unfortunate position of Highland Air has nothing to do with the performance of this route and the company's problems are related to its wider business.
"We are determined to keep the link operating and ensure there is minimum disruption to passengers. We will be issuing an invitation to tender on Monday to seek an operator to provide this service in the short-term. Our aim is to restore the service as soon as possible after the Easter holidays.
"Our long term objective is to appoint a new operator with a four-year contract. We will be doing this through a further tendering process at the European level."

Goodbye Highland! And possibly goodbye Valley route

Yet another new airline and route at BRS - Wizz air from WAW!
Lets hope that when there is nowhere physically left to park aircraft at BRS and they refuse an airline perhaps then they will come to CWL....I think its our only hope!

Not one to try and offend or start an argument... but is it really necessary to make a "why not CWL" type post every time BRS gets some good news?

I think it is fustration. Most posters on this thread want to see their local airport, CWL, develope . Most of the good news re. new routes from the south west segment of the UK seem to be going to BRS. From purely an ecconomic and geographical point of view, BRS is the largest population centre and has the largest catchment area. It is also at the crossroads of two main motorways and the London to the west and south Wales rail line and the line from the midlands to the south west. As a keen supporter of CWL it pains me to say this but if I were an airline looking to open new routes from the south west of the UK, BRS is the obvious choice.

top post, well put; Cardiff wasdeveloped, that is until the successive management started treating the airlines as 'cash cows', for example after 9/11 when airline traffic was in the doldrums what did they do..put prices up by @ 300% (and that was on top of the 'security levy'), while in 2003 prices for office rental per sq/ft went up by 1000% (I still have the budget for our line station for that year stashed in the loft)

As I've said before the mis-management at Cardiff have got themselves into this situation, only they can get themselves out of it,the airlines and GA operators won't.

Anyone know when the summer 2011 charters will be announced? Can we expect anything new? What about the BE expansion any news?

Wizzair from BRS

What i find curious about Wizzairs decision to fly from BRS is the fact that--
a) They are the second largest carrier now at Luton and i believe have a good relationship there
b)Luton and Cardiff are both run by Albertis.

So why did they not offer a good start up deal to Wizz and attract them to Cardiff.
I agree with the cyfarthfa post that it probably is down to catchment area and as a result Cardiff will always be second choice for the airlines unless bigger incentives are given.
This may have been an ideal chance for CWL only time will tell.

According to Wales Online approx 6 months ago. Depending on the figures for 2010 out fo CWL then we are expected for up to 50 jobs created at CWL by Flybe. This would suggest a Flybe base.

Before the recession Flybe wanted to operate some German and French routes which could only provide business friendly flight times with a base at CWL.
