ALLMCC->Looking at the numbers using it would suggest (assuming respectable yields) that in summer it could sustain 3/4 times a week in an ATR 42 in summer. I'm not sure when Aer Arann go to an all ATR 72 fleet, but I think they should still have 42s next year.

Winter might be a different issue, but I would imagine Belfast-Galway could probably be made to work year-round by an airline with a bit of patience. Both are sizable enough population centres and non-air transport links between the two rely on using a private car on poor roads.

.......No sign yet of accomadation for Ryanair crews. Lots to do still.
They have to buy their own like everything else in that airline. Shed sale on soon at B&Q.

If they hold on a little bit longer there will be plenty of accomodation available up on the airside corridor as flybe will be able to downsize as their passengers migrate across to Ryanair.
Any confirmation on the Bournemouth service yet, I hear it's coming soon.

flybe must be incandescent, they are being assaulted on all fronts. Their operational problems were a major concern but to pitch Ryanair against them on a number of key routes, the airport has shown a serious lack of faith in their ability to improve their standards and a lack of respect for the 25 years they have spent putting BHD on the map. I hear that they have also been instructed to give up the business lounge as it is needed for common lounge space and that stands they traditionally use may not always be available as demand for center stands increase.
When will Ryanair realise that the extened runway within a year, if ever, at BHD is nonsence and they should be at Aldergrove.

BE are the airline best suited to BHD, do management at the airport not realise this. I get the feeling that as the numbers at BHD continue to slide, FR are the only hope to turn the tide. However numbers are not everything, sometimes a quality product is a lucrative alternative. The numbers are not far off the 2 million mark now, if BE are forced out and BD lose numbers to EI (seems unlikely with the way things are going with EI), FR may very well be the major operator quite quickly. However the extra noise generated by a higher proportion of jets operating will not work in favour of any planning enquiry. Also if FR were to be the main operator the 4m PA figure that BHD wants to attain may still be a goal to far, as if you look at Prestwick I think it carries about 2.5 million only, with all those FR destinations. Combined with fines for late arrivals FR may soon tire of BHD.

gate 22, I agree that flybe suit BHD more than Ryanair but unfortuneately the airport doesn't care about who's best suited for their operations in terms of aircraft size, the only thing they care about is incresed passenger numbers and more businness from other airlines (which if my calculations serve me correct it equals more money for the airport).

I do think they'll compete well, but I'd say Aer Lingus will have to work on it for a couple of years before they could have bmi give up even one flight to Heathrow. bmi have just bought BMED and this will mean the BHD-LHR flights will be feeders for the new routes, and if they start longhaul flights from Heathrow as well then the route is in more demand.

ps. is it flybe who have been told to give up their businness lounge or another airline, to accomodate Ryanair?

Travel agents are avoiding booking people with Aer Lingus at the moment due to the pilot issue.

However, Aer Lingus has so far taken 1,200 bookings for its new Belfast-Heathrow route and 13,000 advance bookings on all routes from the Northern Ireland base.

Now the threat of disruption to the Aer Lingus programe has been removed I would imagine that airlline will be working with the travel trade and directly with passengers through further advertising to ensure the confidence to book with them, which was very low, is boosted. A number of colleagues in other agencies were reluctant to book flights as they were unsure the base would be established.
The Ryanair billboard campaign would suggest to me that the numbers booking on their flights need boosting also.

Especially when Derry is plastered in billboards with great offers from BHD - even if the same prices seem to exist at LDY. Guess they have a bulk rate for getting country wide billboards - but it seems a bit silly encouraging the Derry public to fly from BHD.

RE Base

In my opinion, I can't see it happening. BCA are greedy for the money that FR will generate for them. Over the summer there was eleven nightstoppers, ten stands! Don't froget they are limited with the passenger cap and air traffic movements.

On another note MOL says to BCA jump and of couse Mr. Ambrose says how high. Such a pity, BHD is a nice airport to operate into until the 28th October

Has anybody seen the security queues recently? I thought I was at LHR o/j

Depends on the time of day. They've been pretty crazy at the peak times (0600-0700 and 1600-1800ish) for ages now.

Think about it airbus-commander

lack of stands, sure thers loads of room on the old apron and over at shorts, by the way there were 8 nightstoppers.Them security queues are an absolute joke, it would take them 45mins to go through bags or what not and especially hoking round your pockets touchin your crown jewels.lol, get a life BHD.

I think you will find Boeing that there was eleven. If there was only eight why were they busing pax to the old terminal at the 6.30am?

Loads of room? The old terminal is general aviation, lots of private jets. Okay shorts area is maintenance hence it is flymaybe's parking garage. Plus there is no facilities over there to handle passenger operations. On another note, the aircraft i.e. A320s would sink at the old terminal. That is why stands are being resurfaced.

I dont know that 320s would sink at the old terminal but size might be a bit of a problem, infringing the height restriction from the center line. What was the biggest aircraft that parked on the old apron? I seem to recall a 737 parked there at one time, but I could be wrong. Also, I'm not so sure there is not as much parking as there is space at the far side, the loadbearing and condition is very poor in places.

Why the discussion of parking the 737/A320's at the old terminal, simple answer is stick the DH4's and Soct Airways etc over at the old terminal during busy peak times.
