Monarch BHX
The Monarch summer 2012 BHX schedule for all six aircraft is now full
except for night slots so it would take some shuffling for it to happen.
If you said a month ago a 2 a week BHX-GIB or 4 a week BHX-MXP, I
would have put money on BHX-GIB, good job I am not a gambling man

Could be quite a busy airport at times All good news for GIB.
Tourism -- especially cruise liners -- are one mainstay, then the offshore status for investments and tax. I spend a lot of time in Gib and know many locals quite well. The cruise passengers are just not spending; the ones who disembark just do the rock and the prepaid stuff. Alcohol and tobacco are VERY cheap and so is bunkering oil for the liners but Main Street is far dearer than any UK (or most EU) high streets without the benefit of a guarantee you can use -- nip back to Gib with your faulty flat screen?
The offshore financial status has limited shelf life -- all kinds of tax avoidance (yes, I mean avoidance, not evasion) are being targeted. There has been a lot of finishing of luxury apartment construction work, but it's coming to an end with just a few odds and ends, relatively speaking.
As for yachting, the new Alcaidesa Marina across the runway in La Linea (Spain) is huge, empty and well built....some access issues but Gib cannot compete now, having sacrificed the yachting status to Spain years ago. Yachts can no longer anchor anywhere in Gib waters not even north of the runway. Marina Bay and Queensway Quay marinas have so much swell they are not safe -- witness all the broken chains, and springs
This story flies in the face of the magnificent new terminal (yes, it's really nice) and new routes being opened. I can't explain that. But I feel sorry for Gibraltarians who are feeling sorry for themselves...

Lemain, when you say that Gib as a town is in "real trouble", I need to chip in and correct your misconception.
Gib has the lowest unemployment in Europe, period.
The economy has grown in the last 10 years at 8-10%pa. Current growth is of the order of 6%pa.
The rest of Europe may be in real trouble, but I can assure you that Gibraltar is well placed, with a robust and diverse economy, to weather any storm that comes our way.

VIP Lounge
Oh no! We're going to lose the 'Peninsular Lounge' when the current terminal closes. I love starting a trip to London in what feels like my auntie's living room in the early 80's! And the secret code you have to be given to get in the door whilst 500 people are staring at you.
Presume there must be a replacement in new terminal. Wonder if they'll move the sofa over?

Old Terminal
In many ways the old terminal will be missed, it was built in old colonial style, hence the wonderful Peninsular lounge, and you could just imagine Dakotas being parked out on the pan, irrregular arrivals hence needing only one baggage carousel ....aviation as it used to be ...oh yes and some of the most pleasant and helpful security staff I`ve ever encountered anywhere in the world.....

Edited: Replaced 'rattled loose change...' for 'jingled loose change...'

Dont think there is a comprehensive list as such, but you could keep an eye on Gibraltar Information & Images - Gibraltar the Unofficial Homepage which has some useful info and the new terminal is in the process of building their own site Welcome to the Gibraltar Airport :: Gibraltar's Air Terminal but beware its a work in progress still and knowing Gib might be for some time to come.
Re accomodation try Mygibraltar.com which has prices for all the hotels, or Trip Advisor for self catering places. Hope this helps

thanks for that, rereading my post i didnt make myself very clear!
when i say accomodation i ment office space in the terminal itself, and as for a airport ID it might be easier the next time I am over to find out.
Many Thanks

First arrivals at New Terminal
The new Terminal at Gib comes into service tomorrow as below taken from Panorama online ....
The New Air Terminal comes into operation Saturday for flight arrivals. The first arriving flight to be handled will be Easyjet flight 7295 from Liverpool which arrives at 11 am.
A Government press release says that passengers will benefit from the use of two baggage reclaim areas and their associated facilities, along with an arrivals shop.
Persons waiting to greet passengers will enjoy the facilities of the new arrivals concourse featuring a shop and catering facility. A viewing terrace will also be open to the public.
Information services will be available along with representation from the car hire companies and tour operators that currently offer services for arriving passengers in Gibraltar.
The new terminal will initially open from 0930 to 1600 Monday to Saturday and 0930 to 1930 on Sundays to handle all flight arrivals. 25-11-2011
