It appears that the new GOG (Government of Gibraltar) are somewhat shocked and dismayed at the rising costs of the tunnel and the cleaning costs of the terminal at GIB.

Looks like a big debate...no surprise....

Indeed..The latest info gleaned from Panorama is that it will be at least May this year( in Gib `s case read August) before departures take place from the new terminal..Until then departures are via the old one although arrivals is via the new one

Cant see new operators being interested this year at least

see on the monarch website that flights are not available MAN/GIB after October, does anybody know something concrete if they are going seasonal on this route?

I think they do this every year. See what happens once the winter schedule is released - or if it has been released then seasonal.

You should see the Malaga flights from MAN for next summer. There is like only one flight a day compared to the two every day last summer.

ZB are obvously concentrating on new routes, but it is concerning the amount of flights into GIB over the winter months

Not suprised really, if this is true. Easy has been slaughtering them on price out of Liverpool for a while now, so watch their prices creep up this winter Really does make the new, and as yet unopened terminal, a white Elephant indeed..

I wonder,if their new routes start to work, will they bother to come back to Gib

They reverted back a couple months ago or so to operating just from the original terminal for both Departing and Arriving flights untill the new terminal is fully completed. Operating just the arrivals from this area turned out to be unfeasable and managed to cause confusion to passengers and traffic flows...

MONARCH LUTON-GIBRALTAR

I think you will find Mansp that Monarch have been operating only three flights per week from Luton this winter to Gib - very very quiet down here in Southern Spain/Gib this winter although the weather has been wonderful (sorry)!
Regards Manchester donīt forget Jet2 are due to start services to Gib from East Midlands this Spring so that could dilute a little traffic also.

That would be bmibaby I'm sure you meant... hopefully they will get advertising the route better down in Gibraltar so people don't get confused

when I travelled to GIB in January I went through arrivals in the new terminal and departed from the old, but I have heard that the new goverment are talking about closing the new terminal until it is fully finished.

it really is about time GIB started getting flights from europe and not just the uk but I cant see it happening soon. well, unless they close the boarder again!!!!

Well life in Gibraltar is always interesting with respect to air services. In fact to be honest with more choice to the UK it is better than expected sy 4 years ago. Sure the pulling of the Madrid route was a sickening blow. I used the IB A319 on a good number of occassions and even the BA A320 service onwrad to MAD from GIB after arriving from London.

There wouldbe a few smiles round the rock if MAD was re-introduced - but such is GIB there will be few frowns as well.

Must have gone back to the original plan then. When I arrived 3 times between the end of November and December we used the original terminal building for both departing and arriving. I was expecting to use the new arrivals after seeing reports. However, during a tour of the new terminal building we were informed the reason as to why it was no longer used for the interim period as the reason I wrote above. . .

Yeah its a nice little terminal not best quality pics though its only a 10MB camera:

There are two baggage halls, one upstairs (2) the other is downstairs (1). If you use carousel 2 then you come back downstairs and you will pass carousel 1. If you use carousel 1 you wont go upstairs at all as there are two passport controls:

Carousel 1 (downstairs):
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...B_Bags_New.JPG

Comes down in a chute which i think is pretty cool:
http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1328995129

Carousel 1 seems to be the busier of the two:
http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1328995129
http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1328995129

Although I did use Carousel 2 i didnt take a decent pic there as there were too many people about.

You can also see planes from the Carousel 1 area:
http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1328997008
http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1328997008

You will then need to go through no goods to declare / goods to declare. (There is a duty free shop by carousel 1 too). Once thats done you come in the big arrivals hall:

Especially for any planespotters out there, if you use carousel 2 you can get some great views at the end of Gibraltar Airport. I managed to get this coming in:

Hope you like the terminal.
