Grrr

Shannon and Galway were once a long way by car, but a recently constructed highway has minimised this to only an hour or so. Nice to know that Shannon is new destination from Luton (I must be dreaming about the Buster family break in Limerick 2 years ago?)

The movement figures at Farnborough belie the fact that departure delays (and some quite significant) are happening due to TMA congestion. TAG want to open daily and raise the movements allowed per year, but folk who live close are not quite so amenable to this idea.

Currently Central London to Farnborough is a much better and more predictable journey by road than London to Luton.

As Olney states, the market is growing so all airports are witnessing unprecedented Biz Jet movement growth.

Luton jewel has got to be the 24x7 though. How many Biz arrive 22:00 -> 6:00. FAB, BIG, NHT, dream on, and how many US companies have operations up the M1 corridor. Game, match. Shame more concerete is nor being laid, even for these guys. Long term it could be what LTN becomes.

Absolutely correct! Plus the fact that out of FAB, BIG, NHT, LCY & SEN only LTN offers full Category 3B and which is authorised by the FAA for US carriers operating under FAA approval AFS-400 as provided in FAA Order 8260.31.

Corporate activity is a big money-spinner for LTN as LLAO doesn't have to pay a bean to the local council for the privilege of having these flights , and despite the rather 'loose' runway slot allocation level now utilised by ACL on behalf of LTN for these corporate movements, the redevelopment of the current Cargo Apron plus construction of a dedicated Executive Terminal for Harrods (not sure what's happening with the proposed new Signature terminal which was actually approved by the Council ) demonstrates the continuing importance of this business activity to LLAO.

More details of the new FBO terminal for Harrods @ LTN now on their website(no link given re advertising restrictions) and looks very impressive. In addition to two separate VIP lounges, there will be a new arrivals hall and many other associated features. With work supposedly under way, earliest completion is this autumn.

According to 'sources' handover to Harrods is scheduled by 31st October this year but could be earlier that month.
What's interesting is that the 'new' cargo apron will actually accommodate less aircraft as it will have just two A300/B767 stands also capable of accommodating three B757/B737 aircraft. It looks as though the rumoured ressurgence of LTN's cargo business is now seen as being of secondary importance to servicing the likes of Harrods and therefore, Silverjet (which will take up residence on the South Apron after Harrods vacates and apparently, after some stand realignment work to enable up to four B767s to park at the same time on that apron).
The 'new' Cargo Apron will have - as a condition of the council's planning consent - a 'noise bund' constructed along the northern boundary (the apron will be several meters further north and so marginally closer to the residential areas to the north of the Airport) and it's also believed that there may be some additional restrictions imposed on overnight jet movements (similar to the restrictions imposed on the T4 aprons at LHR i.e. no jet engine or auxilliary power unit noise or towing on/off the stands, between midnight and 6am). Therefore, the actual 'disturbance factor' to local residents will almost certainly be reduced from what they might currently experience from the current cargo flights at night.
What all this certainly appears to suggest is that any large-scale expansion of cargo at LTN is effectively ruled-out - presumably a deliberate business decision taken by LLAO, and maybe a policy tacitly agreed with and supported by the Council because the majority of these flights take place overnight...

For those of you that don’t get to Luton very often the following has been noted.

3 new ground radar towers have been installed around the airport. No idea of the go live date.

Hangar 129 and its car park, which will become Harrods, have been fenced off for around a month now but I have yet to see any contractors on site.
The guys that manned the security barrier to the entrance of the drop off area seem to have been withdrawn with the barriers left in the up position. Expect to see traffic queuing back to the A 505 like last year during peak periods. This will make the governments investment on the duelling of the A505 to the Ibis Hotel a waste of money if traffic is still log jammed into the central area this time next year.

The Easybus fleet of minibuses are no more as Easybus has gone into partnership with Greenline. At the Greenline bus stop today was a Greenline coach with an Orange Easybus rear and a Greenline coach in full Easybus livery.

Percival Way is now open at the Ibis to all traffic except to traffic coming from the terminal

It actually looks like a Wizz airframe will be night stopping from next week when the Bourgas flights start (Tue, Thu & Sat) leaving at 4/5am. It appears these will be operated by the airframe on the Split rotations which arrives into LTN at 23.15 on Mon, Wed & Fri.

Thanks TS.

There must be a number of Monarch charters too - there are 9 scheduled destinations served on Mondays and only 5 on Tuesday.

Is there not a Tenerife flight on a Tuesday anymore - Thomson (then Britannia) used to have a flight with similar timing to the Monarch flight

Rumour has it that the resident handling agents are turning down requests from Biz Jet operators in ever increasing (record) numbers?

Is this down to staffing, parking or popularity?

When the VLJ's arrive on the scene, the London airports are likely to be overwhelmed (assuming they can get the relevant ATC slots and pilots)?

Might explain why biz jet movements at Farnborough are up 40%. Also those larger sized biz jets like the 727 are becoming a rare sight at LTN no doubt as they need a whole stand each when you can pack in 3 or 4 smaller jets into the same footprint

Well my 'friends' at Marwell talk frequently about the increased Biz Jet activity at Southampton and Farnborough.

with its 24 hour opening and only 34 miles from Canary Wharf don't dismiss Southend for biz jet expansion.

Luton broke through the 400 movements-a-day barrier last Friday, and this having lost the Chiltern Air Support Unit and Eagle Flight Training which together would often account for around 12 to 16 movements a day.
For the third week running, Luton's movements have put it into the UK's 5th place after Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted & Manchester airports.

I wonder how many movements were handled by Stansted on the same day? Essex Radar must be the most manic airport sector in Britain?

Well done to all involved!
