Monarch Press Release

gilesdavies

Still no release on the airport website of the Rome flights-interesting
It's now on there!

But the airports press release makes very interesting reading...

Monarch Launches Rome from London Luton - London Luton Airport

"Monarch’s plans also include expanding its network to 14 routes to Italy, Croatia and Greece, with two additional Airbus A320 aircraft being added to Monarch’s fleet from May 2012."

Either they are piling on the guilt treatment to the airline for not announcing other new routes from the airport like LGW, BHX and MAN or there are more routes and expansion from LTN planned for next summer?!

Read into it what you like...

I read into it...

PR person desperately trying to put positive spin on everything.

Therefore utterly meaningless.

Luton - ZG wizzair flight dropped

Last year Easyjet started LGW to ZG flights. On the same day, Wizzair stopped their flights to ZG from LTN.

This was a colossal pain for me as I travel there regularly and live near Luton.

Is there some sort of cartel in the airline industry that meant Wizz agreeing to drop flights to ZG at the same time as Easy started?

They didn't even wait to see if it would have cut numbers dramatically. Wizz were cheaper, and the planes were always nearly or totally full on that route so it must have been profitable...

any thoughts?

I have no idea if it was profitable or not, however, the ZAG route used to be flown by SOF based crew.

This required the crew to nightstop in LTN on a regular basis and involved ultra long duty days.

Not sure if the economics worked brilliantly on a crew utilisation measure, or whether the route was profitable therefore. And when I say that, I mean Wizz probably found other SOF based routes that were less arduous to crew and had less instant overheads.

There is no link or cartel AFAIK between Wizz or any other airline.

Thanks - interesting info.
What seems serendipitous, to say the least, was the way both airlines announced the new (cancelled) route to coincide at exactly the same week.

Maybe it was simply Wizz knew Easy were about to start the route and the ecoomics of competing, given the night stopping crew, were less appealing.

Grrr

Confirmed today that the staple element of your Christmas dinner (assuming you are a non-veggie) is a big time destination target for a certain well known eastern European airline.

Pegasus will be their direct competitor.

The further east you look and in range of the A320, the closer the routes in consideration are and most from Beds International.

So this bloke that stripped off and sung whilst pouring milk over his head in the tinminal, did his checked-in baggage weigh too much? Good to see the swift action of security and police. Must have been on their break?

I'm afraid I feel sorry for the man - his rants implied he was experiencing some kind of personal crisis, and he had reached the end of his tether.
I hope he is helped rather than prosecuted.

It's how I felt when I learnt that Wizzair dropped the Zagreb flight, but instead I choose to fume quietly on the M25 on the way to Gatwick

With Monarch removing one based A320 dont think its likely in the next twelve months unless the Olympics really does the business for LTN

I am not sure how much removal of the A320 will affect things. Monarch did not seem to fly a full five aircraft programme last summer; Their aeroplanes are only committed to two rotations on many days anyway. Remember the fifth aircraft was bought in at quite short notice when EDI was dropped and may have been a best use option rather than a careful choice.

I would have though a few extra Wizz and EZY rotations could make up the difference.

With the demise/absorption of BMiBaby and FR lack of enthusiasm enhancing at BHX looks like a smart move.

So with many people here supporting a new 6 pack, claiming that there is already demand for it, I wonder if any other airline will snap up the opportunity to base another aircraft here?
