It did at 5:30 this morning and it still does at the last update at 17:01.
We are looking at the 5 day forecast and it is the Met office so l will get the sun lounger out.
The warnings only get issued when they are more confident, so when they see out of the window that it is snowing, the seaweed then gets put back in the cupboard and the warning gets issued.

I see the heavy snow forecast by the BBC for Friday has changed to light rain!

Good job they don't get paid for accuracy!

Sorry to be so pedantic but it starts on 28 March looks like being operated by a Luton-based aircraft would that meanwould it fit in with the lack of Dublin rotations?

Does LTN offer more flights to eastern Europe than any other UK airport, for that fact, any other Western country?!

Eastern Europe

Being someone who knows what 'Eastern Europe' means, I can furnish the following information:

Taking the first week in July, and excluding recently-announced and not-yet-announced routes, 5 airlines operate scheduled services to ex-Eastern Bloc countries. These are Wizzair (124 departures a week), Ryanair (12), EasyJet (26), Blue Air (14) and Danube Wings (2), total so far 178. TOM usually fly IT charters to Bourgas during summer.

The following 10 countries/24 cities are served:
Bulgaria: Bourgas (WZZ 5), Sofia (WZZ 7), Varna (WZZ 2) Total 14 to 3 cities.
Slovakia: Bratislava (FR 7), Poprad Tatry (V5 2) Totals 9, 2
Czech Republic: Prague (WZZ 6) Totals 6,1
Romania: Bacau (JOR 3), Bucharest (WZZ 7, JOR 7), Cluj Napoca (WZZ 7), Sibiu (JOR 4), Timisoara (WZZ 3) Totals 31, 5
Poland: Gdansk (WZZ 13), Katowice (WZZ 14), Krakow (EZY 7), Poznan (WZZ 6), Rzeszow (FR 2), Warsaw (WZZ 20), Wroclaw (WZZ 7) Totals 69, 7
Hungary: Budapest (WZZ 13, EZY 7) Total 20, 1
(East) Germany: Berlin (East) SXF (EZY 12) Total 12, 1
Ukraine: Kiev (WZZ 4) Totals 4, 1
Latvia: Riga (WZZ 2, but only timetabled until 20.6.10) Total 2,1
Lithuania: Kaunas (FR 3) Total 3,1
Croatia: Zagreb (WZZ 4) Total 4,1

I would expect Heathrow and Stansted probably match both weekly rotations and number of destinations, but someone will probably prove me wrong!

Unfortunately your answer is incorrect, sorry to wipe that smug grin off your face. Yugoslavia was never an eastern bloc country or behind the iron curtain, it was a non aligned country that just happened to have a rather loose communist regime. Zagreb therefore should never have been included in your answer as Croatia was not an eastern bloc/east european country.

Wizzair - That equates roughly to 18 return flights per day.

In pure passenger terms are they Luton's second largest airline in terms of seats available? Must be close to Ryanair and Monarch?

You simply have to LOOK at a map to show that what you have just said is completely wrong...

What do you call the area Croatia falls in?! 'Middle' Europe?!

My question was - how many flights are there to EASTERN Europe - nothing to do with Stalin, USSR, Iron Curtain or anything else - basically any country positioned in the EAST of Europe!

So...sorry to wipe that smug grin off of your face!

Thanks LGS for your post - much appreciated.

Darren,

Smug grin is intact. I certainly viewed the former Yugoslavia as an Eastern Bloc country. I know it's communism was looser, but it had a socialist/communist system, no freedom of movement, currency exchange, speech or assembly and was far from democratic.

Buster,

Although not a base, I think Luton is Wizzair's largest operation. Budapest is the only one that comes close.

LTN (in this term) is nowhere close to at least a dozen "Western" cities like Frankfurt, Vienna, Berlin, Paris, Zurich, Amsterdam, Brussels ...etc.

Yugoslavia was never an eastern bloc country..., it was a non aligned country
Yeah, non-aligned like Cuba. With due respect to all ex-yu people they became the worst "Eastern European" country in the '90s. Thank god it seems that more and more parts of he country find the right track again. A beautiful area with extremely nice people unfortunately cursed with their nationalist issues.

Could that be BEG announced tomorrow?
Could be.

Actually KTW is the biggest base with 4 a/c. BUD and some others (WAW/GDN/BBU) has only 3.
