In this day and age of political correctness surely it must be unlawful to refer to the West Midlands as "Black Country"!
Who can 'we' sue and which charity should we donate it to?
P.S. And Coventry Airport is not considered to be a charity.

''black country''
Oh come on Philieas it is part of the United Kingdom's history, if you did not know it was called the black country because of all the industrial polution which occurred with hundreds of chimneys spewing out smoke and apparently daylight was at a premium. One of my old industries - printing - uses black ink do you really want to call it ''ethnic minority'' ink! Get real.

"Black Country"
Compton3bravo - the PC brigade are alive and well in my local branch of a DIY store. Paint which you and I would recognise as black is sold as "extra dark gray" I kid you not. Heaven knows what they would do if they ever do a remake of the Dambusters, what will they do about Guy Gibson's labrador?

Re the Black Country.
Unless you have experenced the Birmingham/Black Country divide; Its virtually unimaginable to understand the gulf that exsists.
In geo-social terms part of it begins quite close to B'ham city centre. About 3.5 to 4 NM infact. The boundary is amasingly well defined:by about Smethwick/Old Hill/Lye accents and social identities change markedly.
In geological terms we are looking at the boundaries of the old South Staffs coal fields -See Wikipedia for more details.
Differences in social and Historical outlook go back at least as far as the English Civil War.
This actually may have historicly contributed to the relative lack of demand for Airiline services as people would look to Wolverhampton & Manchester - espcially those north of Birmingham
Yes Wolverhampton did have an "Airport"
CAT III.

JD Sports - another step closer to Touchwood International. What next, how about a Carphone Warehouse (equally as useful at an airport as a shop selling trainers that most people that way sartorailly inclined will have already packed??)

- another carrier lost by BHX! whos next???

Judging by what's happened, I'd say the service may well be withdrawn

What's next for BHX?
Just pondering on the last few posts regarding the withdrawal of Mahan (to be fair not the airports fault) and rumoured LDY switch to EMA which got me thinking......in terms of route development I simply can't see what's next, just my thoughts but here goes
Loco - It would seem no chance of a new base by either EZY or Jet2 (IMO the only way for BHX to gain a fistful of new destinations). Of the existing carriers, I cannot see any major expansion by FR (indeed I can see them going) or ZB. WW a paltry three re-introduced routes on the cards perhaps one or two others depending on how their new Fortress Midlands strategy works, but EMA will always be their priority. BE as ever very cautious, maybe the E175 will see a few new thin European routes introduced but can't see this amounting to more than one or two new routes, maybe HEL with the Finncomm tie up?
Full Service European - a range of hubs served, other possibles (TAP, IB, AZ?) seems happy to serve BHX as a codeshare through an existing hub
Long Haul - A possible third daily EK but again can't see anything else viable. I don't believe that the runway extension if built will attract anything more than perhaps a second across the pond US service or at a push the new SQ long haul loco operation
Charter - this is the only area I can see new routes in, Thomson to take on the Dreamliner next year so maybe another Caribbean destination, perhaps Goa and Mombasa too?
Overall, pretty awful (as it stands now), apart from going via a hub or on a charter flight very lean pickings indeed and no real prospect of any serious route development. Having jumped on the loco bandwagon far too late (thanks to its love affair with BA) and IMO got into bed with the wrong ones, BHX I think seems to be condemned to being woefully underserved in terms of direct destinations. In the meantime the flow of pax using other airports like BRS, LHR, MAN and so on turns into an ever bigger flood, its a vicious circle. I'm off to LIS in two weeks from MAN, would love to support BHX more but don't want to pay the via hub prices that the likes of LX, LH and so on charge (although am aware that if you book ahead there are competitive deals around)

I was going through BHX on Monday, it was a great surprise to me that it is so quiet, it is very easy access, there's plenty of parking, plenty of space in the terminal, no queues (except for a scruffy gaggle loitering around some cheap looking blue and yellow signs). My favourite airport all things considered. What are they doing wrong? The whole set up looks perfect for easyjet - what are they doing at Southend instead? It makes no sense at all to me, as purely SLF.
