I'm booked on the LHR flight on 17/19th April. I hope it's still running then as I want to fly the EMB135 and BMI as I haven't flown on either of them yet.

Angry

In reading the recent posts I wonder what are the motives of the people who are posting them apart from running down an airport that like many others is currently having a difficult time,

highwideandugly and more bad news

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not only the london route, but probably the airport at this rate.
Airport closed most of yesterday due snow and lack of equipment/manpower to clear-again!! and also last couple of days not even enough ATC staff to keep it going closures announced for the last three days
.

Looks bleak???

NCL was shut yesterday, virtually every airport has been shut at sometime last week, are you suggesting that they had of equipment/manpower?

FROM: 09/02/13 08:00 TO: 09/02/13 13:30

E) DUE ATC STAFF SHORTAGE NO ATC SERVICE AVAILABLE BETWEEN 0800-0830,
1030-1100, 1300-1330.

Not great but do you think these times were chosen so as to minimise disruption to the scheduled services...dare I suggest that is called managing a situation?

N707ZS Has anyone got any contacts in the local media? The Bmi roumour should be in the media. Bmi and or the airport should be pulled up on this one again!
What exactly would this achieve? Yes tell the media they then publish a story based on rumour alone, deterring potential passengers who worry the service might not be there, which makes bmi forward bookings worse.. which leads to them withdrawing the route... who exactly gains from this, not MME or the people it serves.. so what it the purpose of this post!!

Considering the relative size of MME e.g. pretty small, it receives more posts than many of its illustrious neighbours, but the majority of these, from people who claim to be 'supportive' are anything but. Whilst accepting this is a rumour network dare I suggest that people are a bit more considered before making a post?

Reading the posts is one thing but actually experiencing the airport and seeing it's decline are another.
Yes other airports are having problems at the moment but this particular strand is exclusively for Teesside airport and the people who post regularly are in the main users and workers.
There is of course the other option of strangling free speech and debate.

The airport needs a bit of exposure people of Teesside think its just a flying club. There's no local advertising nothing! Who on here can name a list of summer destinations that they have seen advertised locally.

Its like the trains, did you know you can no longer go on the original passenger train journey, Stockton to Darlington but now via Thornaby.
That was cut years ago and I bet if you asked anyone in the street they wouldn't know.

My point being things are done and nothing is said. We the tax payers still own part of that airport and we should know what is going on.

I thought the ERJ's were leaving LHR but 1 would be based here at MME to fly to LHR, just switching the base to our end of the route. After all regional already have a crew base here.

I dont think Regional at MME is a base, all F/D are on secondment from else where. The CC might be based, the way the crews were talking they were expecting to be back in their home bases in April, but some would have to go Aberdeen.

I am back in MME Tue & Wed night so i'll keep my ear to the bar

Funny how Kerry used to be HR Manager yet we have HR problems with not enough ATC staff to cover breaks etc.

Guessing you don't read the Evening gazette then, adverts running for last three weeks!

they have been running the 'just over there port' adverts on some websites as well..

a little bit more 'good' news, Ryanair have changed the times of the Alicante service to teatime Tuesday, lunchtime Thursday and Saturday night.... so better than the 6.40am start from Alicante! (although it looks like back to 6.40am in August!)

Bus to Darlington

I heard the free bus to Darlington is being axed due to lack of passengers. Not surprising, really, as it ran when there were no flights and didn't when there were. Maybe a service like that at Stockholm-Skavsta would be better with a dedicated bus for every arrival and departure. Or perhaps a minibus...

There has been some noticeable advertising recently...

I was in my local shop and the radio was on, with an advert from DTVA saying all the destinations you could fly to (it was a short advert ). And then a few days later I got a booklet with my Herald & Post newspaper from the airport with all their destinations and timetable for the summer in.

Nothing on the Peel website at the moment
D&S Times reported last week that

"Managers at DTVA have said they will attempt to keep job cuts to the bare minimum after revealing a restructuring of operations"

"the airport is proposing to transfer five staff, who answer queries from the public on its information desk, to a new centralised control room function at Liverpool John lennon Airport"

"Meanwhile, one member of staff working in airport services, has been placed at risk of redundancy"

"The move is part of a Company wide review across the Peel Airport Group"

"..aimed at bringing operational efficiencies.."

"Unions are being consulted"

I am sure that the 5 people on the information desk are delighted that they are being transferred. Being on the minimum wage or thereabouts they are not exactly in an ideal situation to up sticks and transfer to Liverpool. Which world are these people at Peel living in. Certainly not the real one.

Is this being advertised 'officially' anywhere and is it directed at pilots/operators or joe public ?

Not sure what the changes are, but I just hope it's not radar moving to Liverpool which was rumoured some time ago.

Either way I'm going to the event - least of all for the bit you didn't copy into your post
