No problem with any aircraft up to 747, AN-124 as far as parking and turnaround. Problems come up with heavy aircraft landing and heavy departure due to the runway length.

Just been invited to a business conference, this was part of the invite:-

Our opening speaker will be Hugh Lang, Chairman of Tees Valley Unlimited, a new public/private sector organisation charged with spearheading economic growth in the Tees Valley. The purpose of Tees Valley Unlimited is to increase economic growth in the Tees Valley at a faster rate than the rest of the UK over the next few years.

Hope it is more successful than MME....

No offence aerodellboy, but it looks like a great headline,

"Dell boy invited to development confrence" presume were all going to be millionairs.

If you get the chance please ask about the master plan.

A340-600 manoeuvring

The thing to be mindful of with the A346 is that is has the most onerous mainwheel to pavement edge clearance on taxiway corners due to its very long wheelbase. Worse than B744 or even A380 in this respect. Care needs to be taken to avoid wheels in the grass!

Can the 346 do MME-YYC nonstop with a decent load though? After all, we al know that the A340 series can be runway hogs

No, some of us know that the A340-300 and -200 are runway hogs as they are somewhat "underpowered" from the ideal. The A340-600 and -500 have power in oodles due to the Rolls Royce Trent replacing the previous CFM56s.

A340

Hopefully someone else will have info to back me up but I'm pretty sure that way back in the Canadian Skyservice days, one of their A340s popped in briefly. Talking around 10 years ago I would guess.

Skyservice had a 330, but no 340's - don't know if the 330 ever made it to Teesside.

Hasn't been a Dash 8 in MME today. Scot Airways Dornier 328 arrived tonight on a charter from Luton bringing the Middlesbrough team home after they lost at Arsenal.

Sorry if this is a dumb question:

I might be totally wrong, but was there once (is there still?!) any form of TNT cargo flight operation at MME? If there is/was, does anyone know any details of aircraft, weekly frequency etc?

thanks

There was indeed, it finished in 2008.
It used to run 4x a week, departing Monday-Thursday nights around 2130 to Liege (usually via Hannover, though was known to go via others like Liverpool, Stansted or sometimes went direct depending on where tech aircraft were). It arrived back Tuesday-Friday mornings. Always operated with a 146 (-200/-300) as far as I can remember.

Heard to day that 60 staff are being sacked at Birmingham airport.Just shows that even the bigger airports are feeling the strain and while it doesn't make you feel any better it does put the air traffic downturn into the news again and possibly nudges the Government to look again at airport taxes. These of course were introduced by the Conservative Govt who found they couldn't unilaterally tax aircraft fuel and I would imagine that the present Govt looked long and hard at the taxes before the recent Budget.
I think another increase could just about be the last nail in the coffin for many of the second tier of UK airports which includes MME nowadays.
