Have you seen the LPL schedule? Departs at 02.20! Yawn. Handy after you,ve had a night on the beer first. Interesting also for a loco - the turnaround time on the ground away from home of 1 hour and 40 minutes.
I think the long turnaround time may be due to Bydgoszcz Airport not being open overnight.

Yes, has been confirmed public knowledge for a few days now.

It is stopping at end of summer season, easyJet are citing lack of demand.

Monarch have responded by increasing their winter MAN-GIB services to 4 x weekly. [They were only planning twice weekly this winter, down from 3x weekly previously, due to the easyJet route from Liverpool this year.]

Monarch have publicaly comitted to 4x weekly now being a minimum level year round from MAN and it is expected to go up to daily (well this is monarch so that means 6/weekly max in reality) during summer 2013, etc.

I'd have thought it would have been more news worthy if they weren't talking to potential new customers!

All airports talk to the airlines constantly to maintain a business relationship, it does not mean a deal for more services is on the cards. A slow day for news at the Echo!!

The article was fairly legitimate and it included quotes from Craig Richmond, I thinks that something may be on the cards...

I think you need to ask yourself is the charter market expanding and are the airlines looking at expanding their network or alternatively is the market contracting and the airlines concentrating their efforts. Then decide if the rumour could be true or not.

May Stats

All gone quiet here

CAA May stats show almost 20% down

What is (or rather isn't) going on?

Has the bubble burst?

If its all hush hush, how do you know that new operators are going to make route announcements?

So much positive spin again; big drop in movements is now all ok because it means higher load factors on the remaining flights.

Well, yes, but that is only part of the argument.

Fewer movements mean less pilot jobs, less cabin crew, less ground staff, less ancilliary staff, less revenue for the retail outlets, less revenue for the car hire companies etc etc etc

But, when it happens at LPL, it's a good thing....apparently.

Really? And where in the recent responses has anyone indicated that the drop in passenger numbers is a "good thing"?

Liverpool has been fortunate in recent years in that his has avoided the fall in numbers experienced at many other airports - unlike in years past when it grew for a few years then slipped back. Time has caught up I guess, but I think it's premature for people to suggest the bubble has burst or to ridicule suggestions that the airport can succeed in securing new business as the economy picks up.

The Management Team said at the start of 2012 it would be a year of consolidation, and so it's proving to be. Money is still being invested in facilities to improve the passenger experience so one must assume they are confident for the future of the business.

The figures are slightly deceptive as they include the loss of two relatively high-frequency routes in KLM's Amsterdam service and the FlyBe service to Belfast City, which account for around 400 of the movements in May 2011 (from a fall of 1100 for May 2012).

It's ridiculous defence and a spin which first appeared on NWAN, now rearing it's head on here.

Spin away, but fact is fact. If frequencies are being cut, no matter that passenger totals remain static, other important revenue streams will be adversely affected.

LPL has 2 main players, both of which are, to varying degrees, retrenching and trimming schedules. That cannot make easy reading for LPL management.

Dont forget that passenger numbers will greatly increase during the busy summer months.

easyJet can't cut back too much as they are bound by a contract until 2020 which states that they have to have a minimum amount of based aircraft and services etc. I'm not sure how many though it was at least 7 at 2003 but I'm not sure now though.
Can I just remind you all of how much passenger numbers have grown in the past 10-15 years, they've increased three-fold.

New routes... spill the beans...
