Where does this information come from?
I think Jet2 would be unlikely because of Manchester and Blackpool.
I dont have any advance information but I do have a good feeling for some new airlines announcing some services this year, fingers crossed!

Is it not at all possible that Jet2 have put the feelers out to get a better deal at their current airports?
I'm of the opinion that nothing is set in stone until an airline make an official announcement, no matter what they may tell the airports they are canvassing.
Someone may be able to prove me wrong.

It may just be rumours about Jet2 and Liverpool, but the company has been doing a LOT of market research around a potential operation. There is some truth behind the rumours and I would just wait and see what happens.

The carrier pulled out approx 3 days before anouncment was being made to press / industry. They may look again 2013 but currently short of a/c for routes combined with economic worries re new routes from Liverpool.
RIGHT HAND RULE
Given your location and profession you may already know about the above, thanks for making the points you did.

This is very dissapointing news.
Hopefully someone else may see an oppurtunity and jump in before them or that they change their mind - I do still think that there is a case for thomson.
For other services I think that air berlin would be excellent for Liverpool.

I agree with you re Air Berlin, as after the pulling of the KLM route they need an interline connection to a hub airport. However would suggest maybe Dublin would be an idea given low APD rates there, also customs clearance in Dublin rather than US. Bottom line you need that HUB connection like Leeds has managed to regain, and Manchester has always had. Maybe tap up BA while they are looking at regions again, they need parlimentry support re LHR so getting local MP,S to lean on Mr Walsh might start the ball rolling, but I think that maybe a big ask.

Dublin would be good, aer lingus regional have set up some new routes recently and I wouldnt say that Liverpool would be impossible in the near future, aer lingus did it a few years back with A320's but pulled off because of Ryanair, I don't think Ryanair will be a problem if aer lingus regional were to do it because its a smaller aircraft to fill.
Air berlin would be great as well, I can see them coming in in the short - mid term future.
I think Thomson could do it - there is plenty of potential for them:
Alicante, Palma, Mahon etc would still be sustainable even with the other carriers, then there is Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Morocco, Florida(!) which could sustain 2/3 weekly flights each.
Plus Jet2 will definetly be operating from Liverpool just not yet, they didnt pull out they've just delayed the announcement.

US pre-clearance at DUB could be a big advantage for that airport and for EI in particular.

Think it is a big ask, at least until LHR expands, but it is exactly what is needed, and not just at LPL. Would love to see LHR-LPL back!

We used to have 1P routes at BLK..Fr made up with baggage and card fees et al.
I am not surprised FR have done this, they warned BLK that if the charged an ADF, they would go,and they did.
They would hate this Spanish tax hike.
