KLM Cityhopper
Does anyone know if the F70 a/c is nightstopping there at all? I do hope so as I love Liverpool! I presume it would be nightstopping to allow for the early outbound flight to AMS in the morning.
Yes it is.

Question Eurozone "silver lining"?

Hello - my first post, I'm a regular user of LJLA and MAN. It's gone quiet here!!!

I wonder how LJLA will fare with the Euro - pound exchange rate being so bad currently? Unfortunately a fair few of LJLA's routes seem to be within the Eurozone rather than further afield and obviously a lot of people will be put off because the pound now gets you so much less. I saw that in the last lot of provisional CAA stats (for November) LJLA joined in the same sort of sad year-on-year fall as other airports have been suffering for a few months.

But, on the other hand, I wonder if there might be a bit of a silver lining in terms of traffic originating in the eurozone?

I think there are more new hotels due to open in town next year, including the new Hilton, so prices might fall a bit at weekends - Liverpool has been a very expensive city to stay in many weekends this year because of all the European Capital of Culture and biannual events filling capacity, and I bet hoteliers will find things a bit tougher in 09.

So I wonder if there will be good deals for Europeans wanting weekend trips to Liverpool? That might make traffic on some routes a bit stronger, at least around weekends. Maybe Easyjet, the major hoteliers and The Mersey Partnership should get together for a bit of marketing in key local markets in Europe to stimulate the weekend break market? There has been a huge amount of publicity about the city, for example from the European MTV awards, which could be built on to build traffic through existing routes. Just an idea.

In addition to the new routes, easyJet are also increasing frequency on the Liverpool to Faro route from 7 to 12 flights a week from 1st June and the Liverpool to Geneva service is increased from 7 to 10 flights a week.

A 9th based aircraft will be stationed at Liverpool from 1st June

NWAN Website

The NWAN website is presently down pending completion of a change of host. I gather it could be another week or more before it is up & running again. Meanwhile the Forum will remain accessible via the link above.

Previous host went bust, hence the delay, not just a simple case of changing host where you can plan for the switch over.

Ryanair cuts 50 jobs at LPL

Just heard Ryanair is cutting 50 jobs at Liverpool due to APD (Air Passengers Duty) on the news. Has anyone got any details on this?

Apparently RYR will pull 10 routes from the start of the summer schedule, reducing the number of based aircraft to 6.

Routes going are to Budapest, Faro, Paris, Friedrichshafen, Gdansk, Lodz, Salzburg, Santiago, Szczecin and Valencia. They've also warned of further cuts for the winter schedule. Bit of a blow, I would have thought, that they say traffic's collapsed due to increased air passenger duty and sterling exchange rate falling. Surely that would be the same for their other UK airports?

That was my first thought too.

Maybe Ryanair have failed to get a better deal (from the airline's perspective) from LPL and this news is pour encourager les autres.

Friedrichshafen and Salzburg would be going anyway this summer

Poland is dire at the moment as the tax man is turning up so they are all trotting home

Valencia, Faro and Paris are understandable as VLC is not the favourite airport of FR and FAO and PAR are covered by U2 (CDG).

Looks like LS have fought them off of BUD!
