Yes, which is why Pegasus thrives although TK tried it with Anadolujet for a while but then switched to LGW which seems more lucrative.
I've often thought that Biman Bangladesh would do well from STN as most of the British Bengali / Sylheti community is based in East London. Though they'd hardly be a coup for MAG. I think EK is the most likely.

LTNman, we would all accept that LTN is better placed for the Jewish community, but to say the passengers didn't come is factually incorrect. Even if it were true, it took El Al 13 years or more to realise!
Am I right in thinking that the LGW Cathay flights haven't actually been confirmed? I'll leave that thought there....

Come on, gentlemen please, can we just stop this bickering and my airport is better than your airport. Both Stansted and Luton are doing very nicely at the moment so let us acknowledge that both have there pros and cons even though they are reportedly to be the two worst airports in the UK but does not seem to worry the vast majority of passengers using the two airports. Thank you.

I could give you more historical factual information about the EL AL operation at Stansted but as that would invariably be seen as criticism of "your airport" I'll leave you to your delusions.

then came Lloyd (who also went bust) and BMA British Midland with some old ex Pan Am 707-321's for some long haul ABC charters out of the sheds (terminal) with some ONA TIA Saturn AFA Airlift DC-8 charters too and wardair's 707 to Canada

BMA British midland did try to operate their first affinity 707 charters from CDD castle donnington (EMA) in 1970/71
but the one HM customs guy had to come from Hull and he was often late and the airport bank only opened twice a week as did the cafe
so when 186 passengers turned up inbound or outbound it was chaos and the tour charter company threatened BMA to pull the plug so that's why the 707's ended up based at STN and not EMA

“A first-class row blew up in May when a major U.S. tour operator, American Charter Company, reluctantly forced the Company BMA to transfer its U.K. trans-Atlantic terminal from Castle Donington to Stansted, due to lack of immigration officials at the airport, and the lack of currency exchange facilities. In a statement to the press Mike Bishop (MD of BMA) said that East Midlands Airport had thrown away its chance to become an important terminal for international air traffic. The Company was extremely disappointed and very concerned about events since the Boeing flights from Seattle to Castle Donnington had started two months previously. A strong commercial effort had been made to transfer the trans-Atlantic operations to the main base airport for obvious reasons, and there had been nothing but problems. A lot of foreign visitors had gone to the airport and received a distinctly bad impression. Both British Midland Airways and the Airport Authority had stood to profit if the service had remained at Castle Donington, both financially and in the long-term. The sums of money involved were not small, as the airport would have made a minimum of £50,000 in landing fees alone, apart from the prestige involved. The Company stated that there would not be any expansion of British Midland Airways operations at East Midlands until services improved.”

Without any doubt whatsoever, this reflects an abysmal lack of 'joined up thinking' at very senior management levels regarding pre-planning when launching such a major project.

Stansted memories
This is turning into a Stansted History and Nostalgia thread.
However, my memories go back to the 1950's when spotting at Stansted meant spending the day looking at a number of derelict Tudor fuselages, wondering if anything was ever going to turn up. There was no apron, aircraft still parked in the old war time dispersal stands.
On one occasion, it was a Monday, I wandered into the operations/terminal Nissan type hut to discover that nothing was scheduled to arrive until Wednesday.
Another time after spending most of the day watching only a BOAC Stratocruiser doing circuits, an Air Charter Supertrader landed out of the gloom to finally make it worthwhile.
Stansted for me has always had a special fascination, but as a die hard SEN supporter, I only wish some of it's current success would rub off on us.

British Airways / Sun Air fly CBG to Gothenburg which is heavily reliant on corporate support from a pharmaceutical company with major operations in both cities. Will we now see Sun Air turn up at Stansted or will SAS find they've had a sudden piece of good luck ? Can't quite see all the pharma crowd flying with Ryanair but stranger things have happened...

Just looking at booking with Eurowings on their new service to VIE. Must say so impressed with price and service they appear to offer, around £100 return in July, with a drink and snack, preferred seating and a 23kg bag included.
Must say so nice to have a service like this from Stansted at last!

Terravision
Yes I believe its true, I believe the airport put out a tender with the bus companies for access to the Coach Station and Teravision did not win. I further believe there is a shuttle bus to the Teravision coach stop which may be at or near the Mid Stay Car Park.
