These FO's were only recruited 6 months ago (Feb 2009) after paying for their type rating with Eastern, now getting made redundant.
Have they lost so much work in the last 6 months.

Otto said I beleive Eastern have retained the Scatsta contract. I understand that part of the reasoning involved the difficulties that resulted from the change of operator on the rotary element of the offshore contracts, and they were unwilling to take the risk on a change of fixed wing contract.

I did wonder if Eastern would do an ABZ-BGO route at some point. Do they still do ABZ-OSL via SVG?
Agree with Horsebox, quite common nowadays that routes are trimmed over summer months, as business people are away on hols etc. Plus no doubt, current market conditions will also have something to do with it. Eastern not the only airline to do this.

Current strategy seems to be a retreat to fortress Aberdeen.
I will be surprised if they don't get the Scatsta contract, they have proven themselves capable and as long as the price is sensible I don't think the consortium will want the headache of another changeover.
Only surprise is that Flybe have not mounted a serious challenge to them at Aberdeen.

I've no idea, it isn't my concern. Remember they are already running the contract, so any fallout in the rest of the business must have ramifications for flight crew across the company. I have no idea how it's performing as a company, that isn't my concern either. I was told Eastern have retained it. This did not come from Joe Bloggs I met in the street.

I personally do not believe Flybe have the inclination or the resources to take on Eastern which can only be a good thing for both airlines.

flybe did not have to pull off the NCL-ABZ. They choose to, as the schedule dictated by aircraft rotation meant the ABZ rotation was too late in the day to attract many punters. It was a route tried to test the water. The aircraft now does a double NCL-LGW in the mornings. Bit more lucrative than NCL-ABZ.

I still think Flybe could have competed with Eastern on NCL ABZ if they had utilised a Logie Bear Saab 340, as they have done successfully it seems on ABZ CWL.
Anyway good to see Eastern continue to look at expand at ABZ albeit partly due perhaps to their retrenchment from elsewhere.
