The latest news is that passenger figures are down more than expected; Trend continues with Airport passenger numbers 4.8% down - Isle of Man Airport Website.
At least Ms. Reynolds recognises that in these recession-hit times people are being more cautious with what money they have left. With air fares often on the increase this is bound to affect the number of passengers.
Personally, although I fly to and from Manchester (the nearest useful airport to Notts), I've taken to using Easyjet flights IOM to Liverpool wherever possible as they are considerably cheaper than Flybe (and now fly at more useful times).
Judging from the crowds joining the same flight, I expect that April figures will show strong growth on this route at the expense of Manchester and Birmingham.

One cannot help but admire Miss R. for the ever creative press releases.
The Belfast flights in total carried 61 more passengers in 2011 than in 2010, Dublin had 21 more pax.
As far as LPL is concerned, Flybe has lost almost 2.000 pax on the route compared to the previous year. Almost half of Easyjet's business is not additional business, but passengers shifted from BE to U2. Which does not matter for Easyjet, but is bad for BE.
Some individual routes performed well during the month. Belfast City, operated by Manx2.com, returned a huge 41.5% increase in passengers, a particularly satisfying result, given that the route carried more passengers than the Belfast City and Belfast International routes combined in 2010

Not surprisingly, the figures show a healthy improvement over last April, when the ash cloud hit operators hard.
As I expected, the change to the Easyjet timetable has had a big impact on the Liverpool route.

What 'change to the EZY timetable' are you referring to? Obviously, they weren't on the route at all in April 2010.
Incidentally the figures are c4% down on April 2009, which would have been a more meaningful comparison, but not quite so 'spinnable'!!
Still, were only c300k pax per year short of those projections in the business case for the new RESA.........that was £40m well spent.

The EZY timetable was changed in April this year to provide more popular departure times, which according to my observations has led to a significant increase in passenger figures for their Liverpool service.
This may not be easily compared to the April 2010 numbers, although the 13,000 figure is a marked increase over the c.9400 in April 2009. But it may represent a shift towards the Liverpool flight from the Manchester Flybe route. I've used the flight several times since early April as it's a big saving over the Flybe prices (even taking into account the extra travelling to Manchester). Many IOM customers are not actually travelling to Manchester or Liverpool, so both routes can be equally inconvenient.

You are right, that there has been a shift from lunchtime and early afternoon departures to late afternoon which may well widen the appeal. However, last summer there was a early morning Saturday rotation which made weekend trips in both directions attractive and this has disappeared.
History shows that the market is from IOM to NW England, not specifically to LPL or MAN, and traffic is fluid between LPL/MAN/BLK, by sea or air, dependent upon the costs. However growing overall numbers and creating an environment where all carriers can flourish in the medium term is much more difficult.
It will be very interesting to see how often EZY's up coming double daily rotations end up being merged.....................

The IOM Airport accounts for y/e 31/3/11 have just been published, as part of the IOMG accounts, and show a 'bad debt' written off of £120k. Doubtless most (all?) of this relates to RE 'restructuring', so management may rightly be less than favourably disposed to them at present.
Then, the down grade of IOM-LCY to tatty old ATR42 once the incentive money ran out, and the regular practice over the last few weeks of operating IOM-DUB with the LCY aircraft, disrupting the schedule for both routes doesn't look too professional, so a back-up plan might be good idea.
I think it's fair to say that during their previous sojourn in IOM, Eastern had a reputation for being expensive, but good, which would make them ideal for the LCY crowd. And presumably, they are still looking for a profitable use for those Dash 8's which they acquired with ASW, which must be LCY certified?

Question: after rolling a very expensive piece of fire fighting equipment whilst presumably practicing to not roll said machine is the fire cover now degraded to exclude anything with more than 80 seats until said machine is fixed? If so that might be a problem for the upcoming TCX flight.

AIP says Cat 6 cover normally available; Cat 7 with 48 hrs prior notice. No Cat 7 would not make the NOTAMs. Anyway no doubt the damaged beast has now been swiftly repaired and back on station.

TT week was in June last year, practice week started Mon 31 May; TT week as you say in June this year, practice week started Mon 30 May. Timing of the event should not have a lot of impact on the May/June figures then, although the powers that be are trumpeting an increase in overall TT visitors, and an impressive jump in air traffic of 12.6% for the TT period.
