Emb 195

Just wanted to say really just returned from BHX to AGP on the Emb 195 this afternoon. First time on board the aircraft and while we had the pleasure of being sat in 1a and 1b the whole aircraft and flight ws very pleasant....altho' still teething troubles? Aircraft bit delayed at BHX as we had to in Captains words -"re-boot the whole aircraft and and computer systems due to warning lights".

Stairs storage seems a hefty job for the girls to do though!

195

Does anyone know the dispatch reliability for the first 6 weeks of scheduled operation?

I can't say I have noticed any cancellations or major delays but I can't
say I have followed it particularly closely.

With any new aircraft you expect a few problems and I believe that the
Jetblue 190's were prone to many "re-boots" but the 195 seems to have
had a relatively smooth run.

I have read a couple of trip reports where coffee wasn't available and
problems with the toilets (or access to them) but on the whole it appears
to be going well.

Any updates on 195 number two?

G-JECP new Dash 8 arrived at BHX today at about 12.

Saw this morning's early arrival from Gla to Bhd was combined with the later flight around 1.00pm. Seems to be happening on a regular basis at Bhd as I've noticed this before. Is it because of low pax loads, lack of crew or lack of aircraft? Perhaps those who only see those things positive at Bhd could tell us!!

Flybe to acquire BA Connect (Airports & Routes)

"Flybe announces that it has reached agreement in principle with British Airways whereby it will acquire British Airways’ BA Connect regional airline business, subject to a number of conditions precedent including the completion of due diligence."

Jim French on Today when pressed about job losses (BA connect has 1900 staff, Flybe 1800) said it might be nearer 'hundred' rather than 'hundredS'.

Press release also states:

Flybe plans to accelerate its current fleet renewal programme and will phase out all of the existing BA Connect fleet as soon as possible.

The rebranding to London Airways is complete. Press release on the BA website states that the London City operation and the MAN-JFK flights are not part of the deal. It doesn't state whether there will be any level of integration with BA (who will get 15% of Flybe as part of the deal), but the way it reads the whole lot will be absorbed into the current Flybe operation, so I assume not.

A sad indictment on the competencies of those at the top of BA over the last decade that they are incapable of providing a service to those outside the South East other than ferrying people to the hole that is Heathrow.

I can't see myself rushing to use them in the future........

Is this serious?

This is extremly shocking, I bet most services will be axed. I think Bristol and maybe a few others will be effect badly, EXT will probally get this routes no doubt.

So What Domestic services to BA have now?

Yes, details also contained on the Flybe website.

They state that the BACon fleet will be disposed of and replaced with types operater by Flybe.

A sad day and I wish all the BACon crews the best on the future - assuming of course that the agreement does get signed at the end of the day (weeks, months).

Whose paying who for the acquisition?

"British Airways will have a 15 per cent investment in Flybe on completion of the disposal"

Sounds like a no money down deal!

Very interesting.

London Airways is just that. Now a complete void north of the M25 and yet the BA tails flying aound in the far north of Scotland as a Loganair franchise. I trust WW will be forced to remove the British bit from the name of his trainset.

I am sure the people at BAcon will see this as a possible new begining with a good future, but it's just very annoying to have had to endure endless lies and spin along the way. Flybe has always been a possible option and there is a chance that it could become a massive force in regional flying. I think BMI people will have more to worry about than BAcon.

Now where's my pension.

BA Press release:

Willie Walsh on Today giving positive spin - Flybe planning to expand, but BA Connect had no expansion plans - wonder what BA Connect's economics will look like minus BA overheads......

British Airways announced today that it has reached agreement in principle to sell the regional operation of its subsidiary airline BA Connect to Flybe.

BA Connect also operates from London City Airport and between Manchester and New York. These services will not form part of the proposed sale nor will the regional ground handling business, British Airways Regional Ltd.

Willie Walsh, British Airways chief executive said: "Point to point regional operations are not a strategic part of our business and we believe that such activities are better undertaken by a regional low cost airline.

"Despite the best efforts of the entire team at BA Connect, we do not see any prospect of profitability in its current form.

"The proposed sale to Flybe provides the best opportunity to secure the long-term future for the many dedicated staff in BA Connect. British Airways will have a 15 per cent investment in Flybe on completion of the disposal.

"London City services complement our mainline business at Heathrow. For this reason they are not included in the proposed sale."

It is envisaged that once the sale of the regional business of BA Connect to Flybe is completed, there will be a transition period until the start of the summer schedule on March 25, 2007 while the handover of responsibilities is undertaken.
Incompetence and ineptitude reigns. If easyjet, Ryanair, Jet2 and flybe can make a go of regional services why can't one of the worlds largest airlines?

This can only have a negative effect on consumers. Between SOU and EDI and SOU and MAN I had a choice or carriers and could pick and choose who I flew with based on a combination of price and schedule. That choice will be lost and I suspect flybe will use it as an opportunity to hike prices.

This will hopefully create a more versatile competitor out of the regions, mixing BA Connect's established services to major European business cities with flybe's decisions to serve leisure destinations on the continent. Combine this with an increasingly successful brand, a fleet of aircraft which can actually compete or fly under the radar of the likes of Ryanair and a generally low cost base - this should hopefully be better for the future of the airline, and in turn their crews. What the passengers will think is another story? For example, will flybe move their flights operated by 5 based BHX based aircraft to T2 and what will happen to BA's ground staff, will they go to Swissport?

Ema & Brs

So what now for the new routes to TFS? obviously EXT is a large base for BE and BHX is also a large base.

Will EMA & BRS lose these routes to there respective neighbours

Regards

Stu

They are GB Services - so think as long as GB want them to stay then they will operate. The word from cadgoan is that they are operating next summer.

Looks like DE gets to keep BAR ground handling or at least the share options and bonuses when it is sold. Three years ago, it was a loss making Regional Airline with 737's and Airbusses. Now it is a profitable ground handling company making most of it's profits from an in house arrangement where it sells all it's services to BAcon. Well done DE and PS, an amazing smoke and mirrors exercise. One potentially viable company -BACX- used to rub out another airline and grow a new handling company.

This is a very large bit of airline news which will change the face of regional
flights to Europe
Things to think of are where the to airlines both already operate on the same route , maintenance and 2 head offices

!. routes on routes where there was competition i:e BHX-GLA will this effect fares and frequencies

2. Maintenance 1 base would never be able to cope, perhaps here is a very good case for the BA hangar at Manchester to be used as it has sat empty for several years now

3 Head office again would Exeter be able to cope with huge increase in work load or would it be better to have a head office more central to the action i:e Manchester

I can see BA/Flybe pulling out of places like BRS now and moving down to EXT and expanding services from there. I don't think it's an altogether good move. The old BA brand will lose a lot of customers I reckon.

Skiddy

You can bet the IOM Government will try to come up with some pretty good package to keep the engineering here. Apart from the finance industry there is not much else here.

LGW would probably fit well into their network but not sure about MAN although they have kept the BHX route.

I suppose the best you can say is at least you know the future of BA Connect now
