Out of interest NCL has a sizeable operation by Thomsonfly and has been expanded over the previous few years. Summer now sees 3 based a/c, 2 757 and 1 737 operating, high frequency loco routes to PMI, ALC, IBZ and AGP. Winter is fairly similar, though with only 1 757 and 1 737. With smaller bases closing could NCL eventually see some longhaul from Thomsonfly/TUIfly, as presently this work is subcontracted out to Monarch, who seem to provide a somewhat less than satisfactory service, with regards to punctuality?!
On another note, NCL was the only TOM station that Servisair did not get the handling contract, it being won by current agent Swissport.

Oh Dear, Consolidation, Base closures? and staff spread around the country! What is the answer???
Listening to this continous 'episode' of what is the largest Tour operator in the UK, Is a 'far cry' from our BY days!!
I knew it when the Pressaug group 'rode' into town' that it was the start of a new German empire!!
I thought the Germans had money?? If they have it seems to me that they are trying to run a 40+ Aircraft fleet on the cheap??
I went into a Leeds Thomson shop, the other week, and I counted 11 different brochures - just for one season!!
I asked the friendly consultant why 11 brochures were justified, and she agreed that it is a waste??
If you calculate 800+ shops x 11 per season it starts to add up, First choice have 1 all year round brochure + 2 - 3 Spain,Greece etc.
Obviously there has to be marketing, But the majority of people are booking over the net now, So paper is not needed.
I think the TUI group needs to get back to basics, And think about it's priorities.
LBA has now gone, But you would be surprised at the number of people in Yorkshire aware of this, And from their point of view they are puzzled as to why after 30+ years Thomsonfly has pulled out??
The funny thing is the PAX is there!
I think in view of this Thomsonfly will lose a large amount of PAX this season, As not everyone can or will go to MAN.
The LBA customer base has being left in the cold.
If the TUI group doesn't get organised it may go down the 'Slide' It has already compared to the BY days!!
It seems at this current time TUI are 'like the wind' - whims + fancies, But no idea of a real 'solid' plan for it's future.
It could all go wrong in a big way??

Does anyone know what variants of 737 Thomsonfly have based at Doncaster-Sheffield, am starting my Type Rating in June and wanting to study up a bit in advance.

G-OBYG has been doing flights around New Zealand this morning. Anyone know when its due back?
Was that the only a/c thats been over there having the refit?

TOM at BHX and CVT
I'm sure there is a simple reason for this . . . .
TOM are flying (scheduled) out of BHX as well as CVT to ALC. Albeit not a frequently but it seems odd to fly on the same day to the same destination (TOM 1287 TOM 4183) as a CVT flight.
Is the TCX 826K a shared flight with someone else ? - Flythomascook ?
Any thoughts

With regards to TUI's LBA base closure I find some of the decisions made by the company this year insane.
I appreciate that the charter market is not what it used to be, but what does anyone make of this:
TUI are to close their base at LBA from May. All op's will from then involve W patterns.
They had LPA flights planned for the last 2 winters but have cancelled them at the last minute, booting pax that had booked to DSA, where they have 2 LPA flights per week. No other flight operates from LBA to LPA in winter.
However, both times they have kept the ACE flight over the winter, despite the fact that LBA already has 3 other flights in winter to ACE, making a total of 4 per week. This seems madness to me, are they trying to commit hari-kari, or just looking for any excuse to close leeds base ???
BTW they have NO flights to ACE form DSA over the winter

Why are Britanniathomsontuiflyfights closing their Leeds base? Well in one word, Jet2.
They are retrenching to maximise yield. If folk want to fly with Thomson, they can do so from Manchester and Finningley.
If folk want to fly from Leeds, Jet2 have it all sewn up currently.

The new Jet2holidays doesn't help TOM's cause!
Jet2 are gaining momentum, biggest LC carrier at MAN, LBA and BLK. That is why EZY are taking them where they are weakest - EDI.
Great to see LS performing so well, but not too great for LBA. How badly will this affect thier PAX numbers?

Well at long last the TUI group have had the order for 11 787-8 finally announced by Boeing and also plus fifty 737NGs .
This order for the 787s l am told, was signed way back last year at the Farnborough Air Show.
All ordered aircraft will be used throughout the TUI groups fleets, two of the B737NGs have already been delivered

How long is the lease on the rather elderley Eurocharter B732? Its been operating for TOM for quiet a while now. Why do they need this aircraft for such a long time ? - they keep announcing new services, but can't operate the ones they've got.

Looks like the axe is swinging a bit this winter in regard to some routes operated by Thomsonfly . Can no longer fly to Amsterdam from Bournemouth , Doncaster and Coventry which is a bit of a surprise and also Paris is no longer bookable from Coventry . Loads seemed reasonable to Amsterdam from Bournemouth in particular but obviously not enough . Lets hope they start again next Spring , a lot of down time for these aircraft at the airports now
