Just one further comment about the diversion to Prague.
Its not a huge distance from KRK but the road is terrible.
It can easily take 8 - 10 hours in a car!
Also, I thought KRK had CatIII capability but maybe Jet2 cannot use it or its not in service.

All is quiet on the jet2 front then?
anyone know whats planned for the aircraft in winter? now we have 2 aircraft and its fairly quiet, but with up2 5 aircraft in 2007 whats planned for winter? i would imagine AGP out of the new routes will be kept going over the winter.
Can we see anything else from newcastle like more city destinations in europe such as italy, france, germany etc etc

TFS Summer 2007

Anyone know about Jet 2's plans for TFS next summer - will LBA be the only route or will BLK/MAN/BFS/NCL-TFS go on sale soon?

Allegedly, Jet2 have approached Norwich about running the Norwich - Faro route, which is up for grabs, however, they would also want to have at least one other route from NWI to justify haveing an aircraft and crew base there through the summer.
Flybe seem to have nearly all the low cost routes tied up from NWI except Alicante, would that be vaible for Jet2 if they operated Faro or would prefer to tie it in with another airport?

Flybe do NWI-ALC so are you saying that they have a low frequency that would allow Jet 2 to take a piece of the market?

No.
FLybe dropped the NWI - Alicante route, but they were operating to Murcia as well, which is less than 50km down the road and seemed to be un necessary competition.
As far as I understand it, Jet2 are quite happy to take on the NWI - Faro route but want another similar route which will cover the liablity if it doesn't work out, the NWI - Faro route has always been patronised at a capicity of 75% plus.
Flybe, as far as I have been told, are experiencing difficulties due to late deliveries of new aircraft and commitments to disposal of the old fleet, which has affected routes at all UK airports.

Make of that what you will.

Flybe timetable shows Monday, Wednesday and Friday ALC flights this winter and next summer, on w patterns, but no Murcia so maybe they could serve there instead?

Other options could be Palma, Ibiza (both unserved by Flybe) and Malaga (only to be served twice weekly by BE next summer)

from what i hear there is a big announcement due at Jet2 low fare finder house next week.
rumour in the crew room (so please take with a pinch of salt) is a new base, possibly HUY, DSA or NWI.
Other rumour is the introduction of the 737-400 to the fleet

I thought that all airlines ran on rumours! They seem to have done since Pontius was a student pilot and Long John Silver had an egg on his shoulder.....

Yep that'll be cos they have 1 B733 based there (and iirc they're getting a B752 next summer?) and the B733 operates charters (and some mail/newspapers) from the STN base.

STN is an existing base - a carry over from the Channel Express days where G-CELP is based to operate various ad-hoc charter duties. Not sure whether there are any plans to expand this side of the business, but would be surprised if they rolled out a mainstream scheduled operation from there simply given the competition in that part of the world.

The South-Eastern part of the North of England catchment area is where they have arguably the least presence and if they are looking to expand, there is some logic to DSA and HUY being on the rumoured 'new base' list. One imagines if MAG have some medium term plan to dispose of HUY, then the investment in getting a low-cost operator established now will probably generate a disproportionate increase in the selling price a few years down the line. After all, an airport with .75m - 1m pax p/a and a based operator is going to be infinitely more attractive than 0.4m and a few summer charters.

Niknak your quite correct. Jet2 would do well at Norwich. Not alot will compete against a good old 737. AGP and ALC have to be favourites. Those routes would work from anywhere. In addition there are heavy delays for flybe's E195 so it would be a good time to get in.

It seems to have gone quiet on the Stansted gossip for the 757. Any ideas?
